Why Choose SJ Petro's Series of Oil Drilling Rigs?

1. One Family, Full Depth Coverage – No Gaps

From 1,000 m water wells to 12,000 m ultra‑deep gas wells, the ZJ series covers every depth. You can standardize your entire fleet on a single family, with consistent engineering across all models. No need to qualify multiple suppliers for different depth ranges.

2. Common Spare Parts – Reduce Inventory by 30‑40%

Because of shared components across the series, a fleet of 10 ZJ rigs (mixed models) requires far fewer unique spare parts than a fleet of 10 rigs from different manufacturers. Brake pads, seals, sensors, I/O modules, and even major components like top drive adapters are interchangeable. Our customers typically report 30‑40% reduction in spare parts holding cost.

3. Unified Training – Lower Crew Turnover Impact

When a driller moves from a ZJ50 to a ZJ90, the transition takes days instead of weeks. The HMI is identical. The joysticks work the same way. The alarm priorities are the same. This reduces the learning curve and allows you to move crew between rigs without performance loss.

4. Backed by Sinopec – The World's Largest Operator of Series Rigs

Sinopec Group operates the largest fleet of ZJ series drilling rigs globally – thousands of units across China, the Middle East, Russia, and Africa. Every design improvement, every safety enhancement, and every reliability fix comes from real‑world field data. Your rig benefits from this continuous feedback loop.

5. API Certified Across the Board

Every rig in the ZJ series – from the smallest ZJ30 to the flagship ZJ120 – is designed and manufactured to API 4F, 7K, 8C, Q1. Full material traceability, weld maps, NDT reports, and pressure test certificates are provided. Third‑party inspection (ABS, DNV, BV, SGS) is welcome at any stage.

6. Global Service Network – One Number for Your Entire Fleet

  • 24/7 remote diagnostics – Our support center can log into any rig in your fleet (with permission) from anywhere.

  • Regional parts hubs – Dubai, Houston, Singapore stock common components across the ZJ series.

  • Unified technical documentation – The same manual structure and part numbering system across all models.

  • Fleet‑wide support contracts – We offer consolidated service agreements covering all your ZJ series rigs.

7. Flexible Commercial Models – Fleet Acquisition Programs

We understand that building a fleet requires capital planning. SJ Petro offers:

  • Single rig purchase – standard 30/40/30 terms.

  • Multi‑rig fleet discount – 5‑12% off for orders of 5+ rigs.

  • Fleet leasing – operating lease covering multiple rigs, maintenance included.

  • Mixed purchase/lease – buy some rigs, lease others, with unified support.

FAQ – Series of Oil Drilling Rigs

Q1: What is the difference between the "Petroleum Drilling Rig Series” and a collection of unrelated rigs from the same manufacturer?

A: A true series is designed with common interfaces, interchangeable components, and consistent control systems across different depth ratings. In the ZJ series, a driller’s cabin from a ZJ50 can be swapped into a ZJ90 (emergency backup). Brake pads from a ZJ70 fit a ZJ50. The same PLC programming software works on every model. This level of commonality is not present when you buy unrelated rig models that just happen to come from the same factory.

Q2: Can I mix models within the series for a single drilling campaign (e.g., use a ZJ50 drawworks with a ZJ70 mast)?

A: Within limits, yes. The ZJ series shares the same pin connection patterns. However, the mast must be rated for the hook load of the drawworks. You cannot hang a ZJ70 drawworks (4,500 kN) on a ZJ50 mast (3,150 kN rating). You can, however, use a ZJ50 drawworks on a ZJ70 mast – you simply won't use the mast's full capacity. Contact our engineering team for specific compatibility questions.

Q3: How do I choose which model in the series is right for my field?

A: Use the depth rating as the primary guide. Add 20‑30% margin for unexpected deeper drilling or heavier casing. Then consider:

  • Mobility – walking vs. skid vs. trailer (BE series)

  • Environment – arctic, desert, offshore package needed?

  • Automation – how much hands‑off operation do you want?

  • Existing fleet – match to your current models for spares commonality

Our sales engineers can help you select the optimal model using your actual well plan.

Q4: Are spare parts really interchangeable across different models? Give examples.

A: Yes. Examples of identical parts across ZJ50, ZJ70, ZJ90:

  • Drawworks brake pads (same material and dimensions)

  • Crown block sheaves (same bearing and groove profile)

  • Hydraulic power unit filters (same part number)

  • Driller's cabin touchscreen (same hardware)

  • Mud pump valve seats (same size for same pump model)

  • Top drive guide rollers (common across 500‑750 t models)

Major components like the drawworks gearbox are not identical (because power differs), but many subcomponents are.

Q5: Can I upgrade a ZJ50 to ZJ70 capacity later without buying a new rig?

A: Yes, with limitations. The ZJ50 and ZJ70 share the same substructure and mast families, but the ZJ70 mast is heavier and has higher load rating. To upgrade:

  • Replace drawworks module (1,500 HP → 2,000+ HP)

  • Upgrade top drive (if needed)

  • Add mud pump capacity (2 → 3 pumps)

  • The existing substructure may be reused if its rating is sufficient.
This is a field‑retrofit capable operation, typically taking 4‑6 weeks. Contact us for a specific upgrade assessment.

Q6: Do you offer training specifically for the series approach (common controls, common maintenance)?

A: Yes. Our standard training program for fleet operators includes:

  • Common systems training – one module covering the HMI, PLC logic, and hydraulic schematics that apply to all models.

  • Model‑specific differences – a short module covering the differences between ZJ50, ZJ70, etc. (mostly power ratings and module counts).

  • Spare parts management – how to stock common parts across the fleet.

For a fleet of mixed ZJ series rigs, we can train your crew in 2‑3 weeks total.

Q7: What is the typical delivery lead time for a fleet of ZJ series rigs (e.g., 3 x ZJ50 + 2 x ZJ70)?

A: For a fleet order:

  • First rig: 6‑8 months (full engineering, first‑article testing)

  • Subsequent rigs: 4‑6 months each (production line already set up)

  • Full fleet delivery: typically 10‑14 months from order, depending on quantity.

Multi‑rig orders receive priority in our production schedule.

Q8: How do I get a fleet quote for the ZJ series?

A: Contact our series sales team with:

  • Number of rigs and desired models (ZJ30 to ZJ120)

  • Operating environment (desert, arctic, offshore, etc.)

  • Automation level required

  • Mobility preference (skid, walking, BE, containerized)

  • Spare parts package (we recommend a fleet spares kit)

We will provide a fleet proposal including model recommendations, commonality analysis, spares inventory estimate, training plan, consolidated pricing, and delivery schedule – within 14 working days.
