Applications – Where Skid-Mounted CTUs Excel

Skid-mounted coiled tubing units are the preferred choice for operations where road access is limited or where permanent installation is required. Here's where they deliver the best return:

Application Description
Offshore Platforms Space-constrained environments requiring crane-in/crane-out installation
Remote Onshore Locations Areas without road access—fly-in, crane-in, operate
Permanent Installations Fixed well sites where equipment stays on location
FPSO / FLNG Vessels Marine applications requiring compact, liftable modules
Well Cleanout & Sand Flushing Remove sand plugs and debris without killing the well
Paraffin & Scale Removal Clear wax buildup and mineral scale to restore production
Acidizing Precisely place acid across target zones for stimulation
Nitrogen Lift & Gas Lift Unload wells and kickstart production
Fishing Operations Retrieve lost tools or debris from the wellbore
Milling & Drilling Operations Remove plugs, packers, or cement with controlled milling
Velocity String Installation Run smaller-diameter tubing to address liquid loading
Well Logging Deploy logging tools in deviated or horizontal wells

Product Type Configurations

Configuration Best For Key Advantage
Standard Skid-Mounted Onshore permanent installations, remote locations Individual skids for each component; crane-in/crane-out simplicity
Offshore Skid-Mounted Offshore platforms, FPSO vessels DNV 2.7-3 certified; compact footprint; corrosion-resistant
Explosion-Proof Skid-Mounted Hazardous area operations (Zone II) ATEX certified; explosion-proof components
Combination Configurations Operations needing mix of mobility and skid-mounted components Truck or trailer for some modules, skids for others

Why Choose SJ Petroleum Machinery?

🏭 Sinopec Manufacturing Heritage

We're not a trading company—we’re a manufacturer with roots in Sinopec's engineering ecosystem. Founded in 1941, we've been building oilfield equipment for over eight decades. As a China Critical Technological Equipment Nationalization Base and National Hi-tech Enterprise, our quality systems, supply chains, and engineering standards meet the highest benchmarks. SJ successfully developed the first skid-mounted offshore workover equipment in China.

🔧 Full-Spectrum Engineering Capability – Core Components In-House

SJ has mastered the design and manufacturing of injector heads, tubing reels, control systems, and other key components through international technical cooperation and independent innovation. Core components are over 90% domestically produced, meaning shorter supply chains and faster spare parts availability. We don't just assemble—we engineer.

🌊 Offshore Pioneer – DNV-Certified CTU Developed in China

SJ successfully developed China’s first offshore explosion-proof coiled tubing unit with DNV certification, achieving breakthroughs in six key technologies to meet the requirements of offshore operations. Our skid-mounted units are available with DNV 2.7-3 lifting certification and ATEX Zone II explosion-proof configurations.

🌍 Proven Global Track Record

Our skid-mounted coiled tubing units have been widely used in China's oilfields and exported to South America, Africa, and the Middle East. SLG series units have been deployed in Saudi Arabia’s Udlia block (earning praise from Saudi Aramco), Russia's Surgut region, and China's Fuling, Weiyuan, and Puguang oilfields.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What's the difference between a skid-mounted CTU and a truck-mounted CTU?

A: A truck-mounted CTU integrates all components onto a vehicle chassis and requires road access to reach the wellsite. A skid-mounted CTU consists of individual modules (injector, reel, power pack, control cabin) each mounted on its own skid. These skids are designed to be lifted by crane and placed on offshore platforms, barges, or remote onshore locations where roads don’t reach. Once in position, the skids operate just like any other CTU.

Q2: What does "skid-in-skid” design mean?

A: "Skid-in-skid” refers to our modular approach where each major component is mounted on its own individual skid. This allows each module to be lifted separately (reducing crane capacity requirements), positioned independently around the wellhead, and maintained or replaced without dismantling the entire system.

Q3: What pulling capacities are available in skid-mounted configuration?

A: The SLG Series skid-mounted CTUs are available across the full model range—from SLG50 (50 kN / 11,200 lbs) through SLG620 (620 kN / 139,000 lbs) . Choose the capacity that matches your well conditions.

Q4: Can skid-mounted CTUs be used offshore?

A: Absolutely. Skid-mounted CTUs are the preferred configuration for offshore operations. We offer DNV 2.7-3 lifting certification and ATEX Zone II explosion-proof options. SJ successfully developed China's first offshore explosion-proof coiled tubing unit with DNV certification.

Q5: What tubing sizes do the skid-mounted units handle?

A: The SLG series handles tubing from 3/8″ up to 4-1/2″ depending on the model. Reel capacity is customized per your depth requirements.

Q6: What’s the operating temperature range?

A: Our skid-mounted units operate across a wide temperature range from −45°C to +55°C, making them suitable for polar, temperate, and desert environments.

Q7: Are the core components independently manufactured?

A: Yes. SJ has mastered the design and manufacturing of injector heads, tubing reels, control systems, and other key components. Core components are over 90% domestically produced.

Q8: What's the typical lead time for a skid-mounted CTU?

A: Standard lead time is 90 to 150 days from order confirmation to shipment, depending on configuration and customization level. Contact our sales team for current availability.

Q9: Do you provide training and after-sales support?

A: Absolutely. Each CTU sale includes commissioning assistance and operator/maintainer training—either at your facility or ours. Spare parts are stocked for global shipment, and our technicians are available for field support.

Q10: How do I get a quote for a skid-mounted CTU?

A: Send us your well parameters: target depth, tubing diameter, expected wellhead pressure, operating environment (offshore/onshore, temperature range), and any certification requirements (DNV, ATEX, etc.). We'll respond with a technical proposal and commercial quote within 7–10 business days.
