-
Medium-Duty (80–120 tons) – XJ350, XJ450, XJ550 models. General workover, medium-depth interventions, light drilling.
-
Heavy-Duty (150–225 tons) – XJ650, XJ1000, XJ1200 models. Heavy workover, deep well interventions, large-diameter tubing.
By Derrick / Mast Type:
-
Single-Section Mast – Simpler design, lower weight, suitable for shallower depths and lighter loads.
-
Two-Section Telescoping Mast – Higher working height, greater hook load capacity, hydraulically raised and extended.
Why Choose SJ Petroleum Machinery?
✅ Backed by Sinopec – As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sinopec Oilfield Equipment Corporation, SJ brings the resources, stability, and technical depth of a Fortune 500 parent organization. Our rigs are not budget compromises—they are professionally engineered machines backed by one of the world's largest energy companies.
✅ 80+ Years of Manufacturing Excellence – Founded in 1941, SJ has been building oilfield equipment for over eight decades. Our heritage includes producing China's first domestic workover rigs, and today we are one of China's largest exporters of drilling and workover equipment, with products shipped to over 30 countries including the United States, Canada, the CIS, North Africa, and the Middle East.
✅ Full API Certification – SJ holds API Spec 4F, 7K, 8C, 6A, and 16C monogram licenses, with ISO 9001 and HSE certifications across our manufacturing facilities. API 4F covers drilling and well servicing structures; API 7K covers drilling equipment; API 8C covers derricks. Every XJ series mast, substructure, and drawworks is designed and manufactured to these exacting standards.
✅ "China Top Brand" Recognition – SJ's drilling and workover equipment has been awarded "China Top Brand" status—a government-backed quality recognition that sets us apart from smaller or less established manufacturers.
✅ Engineered for Real-World Field Service – Our design philosophy is straightforward: "Advanced performance, reliable operation, convenient mobilization, economic operation, and meeting HSE requirements". If a feature doesn't help a field crew do their job faster and safer, it doesn't go on the rig.
✅ Genuine Customization – We don't push one-size-fits-all solutions. Need a cold-weather package for -45°C? Say no more. Want a rotary table upgrade for light drilling duty? Done. Running a desert campaign and need extra cooling? We've got that too.
✅ One-Stop Integrated Solutions – From feasibility study and engineering design to manufacturing, factory acceptance testing, shipping, on-site commissioning, and after-sales support—SJ delivers complete turnkey workover rig solutions.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: What exactly is the difference between a workover rig and a standard drilling rig?
A workover rig is specifically designed for well intervention, maintenance, and repair on existing wells. They are lighter, more mobile, and more cost-effective to run than full-size drilling rigs. With that said, most SJ XJ series rigs can also perform light drilling duties when equipped with a rotary table—giving you two machines in one.
Q2: What workover depths can your XJ series rigs handle?
Depth capability depends on the tubing/drill pipe diameter. XJ250 reaches 2,000 m with 2⅞" DP. XJ350 hits 3,200 m. XJ450 reaches 4,500 m. XJ550 goes to 5,800 m. XJ650 reaches 7,000 m. XJ1000 hits 8,000 m. And the flagship XJ1200 reaches 9,000 m with 2⅞" DP. For 3½" drill pipe, depths are typically shallower by approximately 20–25%.
Q3: What brands of engines and transmissions do you use?
Our standard configuration uses Caterpillar diesel engines (C9, C13, C18, and larger depending on the model) matched with Allison Oil Field Series hydraulic transmissions (4700 OFS and higher). These are globally recognized components with excellent parts and service support worldwide.
Q4: Do your workover rigs require a crane for mast erection?
Not at all. The mast is raised and telescoped entirely using integrated hydraulic cylinders. No external crane needed, which reduces equipment rental costs, reduces site personnel exposure to lifting hazards, and dramatically cuts rig-up time.
Q5: Can the same rig be used for both workover and drilling?
Yes—and this is one of the most practical features of the XJ series. Equip the rig with a rotary table, swivel, and drilling tools, and you have a mobile light drilling rig. For example, the XJ450 (80-ton) can drill new wells up to 1,500 meters depth.
Q6: What certifications do your rigs carry?
SJ holds API Spec 4F (structures), 7K (drilling equipment), 8C (derricks), 6A, and 16C monogram licenses, plus ISO 9001 and HSE certifications. Many core products also hold CE, CU-TR (Russia / EAEU Customs Union), and ABS certifications.
Q7: Does SJ provide operator training and commissioning?
Every rig purchase includes comprehensive on-site commissioning and training services covering daily operations, safety procedures, scheduled maintenance, and emergency response.
Q8: What is the typical delivery lead time for a workover rig?
Lead times vary by model and customization level, but typical delivery ranges from 6 to 10 months after order confirmation. We recommend contacting our sales team with your specific timeline requirements.
Q9: Do you provide spare parts and after-sales support internationally?
Yes. SJ maintains a global spare parts inventory and works with regional partners to ensure timely fulfillment of routine wear parts and critical spares. Our after-sales support team is available for remote troubleshooting and field technical assistance.
Q10: How does SJ's workover rig quality compare to Western manufacturers?
SJ has been manufacturing oilfield equipment for over 80 years and holds the same API certifications (4F, 7K, 8C) as leading Western manufacturers. Our rigs incorporate Caterpillar engines and Allison transmissions, and we have exported thousands of units to North America, Europe, Russia, the Middle East, and Africa. The difference is in pricing: by leveraging China's efficient manufacturing supply chain without compromising on core component quality, SJ delivers exceptional value for money.
