Typical Applications – Where the HXJ135 Excels
Application
Details
Routine workover
Rod & tubing pulls, pump changes, downhole valve replacement – wells up to 3,500m
Light fishing
Retrieving parted rods, tubing, or hand tools (not heavy stuck packers)
Well cleaning
Circulation, sand washing, paraffin scraping
Cement plug setting
Squeeze jobs, abandonment plugs (low‑pressure formations)
Snubbing assistance
Used alongside a light snubbing unit for live well work
Initial completion
Running tubing and accessories on new wells (if no drilling rig on site)
Not recommended for: Heavy stuck pipe pulling (>1,200 kN continuous), long sidetracking (>100m), or deep well deepening beyond 200m. For those, step up to SHXJ158 or SHXJ180.
Best fit platforms:
-
Older fixed platforms with 15‑20 ton crane capacity
-
Marginal fields with low production volume
-
Wellhead platforms with tight deck space (e.g., satellite platforms)
-
Any platform where power supply is unreliable or unavailable

The HXJ135 is the most cost‑effective model in our offshore lineup – lowest purchase price, simplest maintenance, and smallest deck footprint. It’s not trying to be a drilling rig. It’s just a very good workover rig.
OEM Customization – Making It Fit Your Unique Platform
Because the HXJ135 is often bought for older or non‑standard platforms, we offer more customization flexibility than on larger rigs.
Common customizations:

Our Solution
"My crane can only lift 8 tons”
Split the mast into 4 sections (heaviest 7.8 tons). Add a small davit crane on the rig for self‑assembly.
"I have no diesel fuel storage on platform”
Use platform hydraulic supply (if available) – we replace diesel engines with hydraulic motors. Or add a small day tank.
"I need to mount the rig on a concrete deck”
Provide a steel base plate with distributed load pads. No padeyes needed – we use bolt‑down anchors.
"My wellheads are only 2 meters apart”
Narrow skid base design (standard width 2.8m, can reduce to 2.2m).
"I want AC drive but my platform has 380V only”
Step‑up transformer included (adds 1.2 tons – must fit crane limit).
"I don’t need a rotary table – just a hydraulic workhead”
Remove rotary table, install a hydraulic workhead for rod/tubing spinning. Reduces weight by 2.5 tons.
Typical customization lead time:
-
Standard HXJ135 (hydraulic, single‑piece mast): 6‑7 months
-
With telescopic mast or AC drive: 7‑8 months
-
Heavy customization (module splits, special deck mounting): 8‑9 months
Why Choose SJ for Your HXJ135?
Reason
What It Means for You
Proven simplicity
The HXJ135 design has been around for over 15 years. We’ve sold nearly 50 units – all still running. No "new model bugs.”
Lowest total cost of ownership
Hydraulics are cheap to repair. Parts are common (diesel engines, pumps, valves – off‑the‑shelf from Bosch, Parker, Cummins).
Fast spares availability
We stock HXJ135‑specific spares in Houston, Dubai, and Singapore. Most wear items (brake pads, hydraulic hoses, seals) are standard industrial sizes.
Easy crew training
A 3‑day on‑site course is enough for an experienced workover crew. We provide laminated quick‑reference cards.
Sinopec backing
Not a backyard workshop. We have full API and ISO systems, material traceability, and financial stability.
Real field support
Our offshore service team has responded to calls from platforms in the South China Sea, Malaysia, and West Africa – often via video call within hours.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: What does "HXJ135” stand for?
A: "H” = offshore (Hǎi), "XJ” = workover rig (Xiū jǐng), "135” = nominal hook load in metric tons (135 tons = 1,350 kN). Similar to SHXJ series but "HXJ” is our designation for the lighter, primarily hydraulic lineup.
Q2: What’s the main difference between HXJ135 and SHXJ158?
A: HXJ135 is smaller, lighter (78 tons vs 98 tons deck load), hydraulics‑first design, no top drive option, lower cost. SHXJ158 is bigger, AC VFD‑first, top drive optional, intended for heavier workover and light drilling. If your platform crane is ≤15 tons and wells are ≤3,500m, HXJ135 is the better fit.
Q3: Can I add a top drive to the HXJ135 later?
A: No – the mast and substructure aren’t designed for the added weight and torque reaction. If you need top drive, please look at SHXJ158 or SHXJ180.
Q4: Does the hydraulic version require a lot of maintenance?
A: Routine maintenance: change hydraulic oil & filters every 2,000 hours, inspect hoses annually, repack cylinders every 3‑5 years. That’s it. Compared to AC VFD (which needs cooling fans, capacitor checks, software updates), hydraulic is simpler for remote platforms with limited technical staff.
Q5: What if my platform has no crane at all?
A: We can supply a lightweight davit crane (electric or manual) that mounts on the HXJ135 substructure. It can lift the mast sections and other modules from a supply boat. Alternatively, you can use a barge crane for installation, then the rig stays in place.
Q6: What’s the typical fuel consumption?
A: Two diesel engines at full load: ~30 liters/hour each (60 L/h total). At typical workover loads (60% power), about 35‑40 L/h. A 2,000‑liter day tank runs for 2‑3 days of continuous operation.
Q7: Can I run the rig from the platform’s hydraulic power unit (if available)?
A: Yes – if your platform has a hydraulic power unit with at least 150 kW and 250 bar pressure, we can remove the diesel engines and connect to your system. Provide us with your HPU specs for compatibility check.
Q8: What warranty do you offer?
A: 18 months from shipment or 12 months from commissioning. Hydraulic components (pumps, motors, cylinders) have 24‑month warranty against manufacturing defects. Wear items (hoses, seals, brake pads) are not covered – but they’re inexpensive.
Q9: Do you offer training?
A: Yes. Standard package includes 3 days on‑site training (classroom + hands‑on) for up to 6 crew members. Optional simulator training at our Jingzhou facility (2 days). Training materials: operator manual, maintenance guide, troubleshooting flowchart.
