Where the SHXJ90 Really Shines – Applications
Application
Typical Well Details
Why SHXJ90 is Ideal
Routine pump change
2,200m rod pump, 2‑7/8" tubing
Light load, quick move – rig up in morning, work by afternoon
Rod & tubing pull
2,500‑3,000m, no heavy scale
900kN is plenty; lighter rig means lower mobilization cost
Paraffin scraping
Any depth
Low torque requirement – hydraulic version runs slow & steady
Light fishing
Dropped hand tools, broken rods (not stuck packers)
Sufficient pull for most fishing jobs in shallow‑medium wells
Well cleanout
Sand washing, circulation
Small rig = less fuel burn during long circulation jobs
Completion running
Initial tubing & rods on new wells (if no drilling rig)
Enough hook load for standard completions up to 3,000m
Abandonment prep
Pulling tubing, setting shallow plugs
Cost‑effective for low‑budget P&A campaigns
Not recommended for: Stuck packer pulling (>700 kN sustained), long sidetracking, or wells deeper than 3,500m. For those, move up to HXJ135 or SHXJ158.
Perfect for:
-
Satellite wellhead platforms (4‑6 slots)
-
Marginal fields with intermittent workover needs
-
Platforms with crane capacity ≤15 tons
-
Fields where workover frequency is low but the rig needs to be stored on‑platform (small footprint)

OEM Customization – We’ll Make It Fit Your Exact Constraints
Because the SHXJ90 is often bought for non‑standard platforms, we treat every order as a semi‑custom build.
Real customizations we’ve done:

Customer Request

Our Solution
"My crane can only lift 5 tons”
Split mast into 4 sections (heaviest 4.8 tons). Add a small A‑frame on substructure for self‑assembly.
"I have no diesel storage – only platform hydraulic supply”
Remove diesel engine, add hydraulic interface manifold. Rig runs off platform HPU.
"My deck is only 5m x 5m”
Narrow‑frame substructure (4.8m x 4.8m). Foldable work deck extensions.
"I need to move the rig between three platforms weekly”
Add quick‑release connectors for all hoses & cables. Color‑coded lifting points. Reduced module count to 5.
"I want to run it remotely from shore”
Add remote control system via 4G/5G with cameras. (We’ve done this for a platform 15km offshore.)
"No crane at all – just a davit”
Davit‑lift mast sections (max 3 tons each). Include manual winch for assembly.
Customization lead time:
-
Standard SHXJ90 (electric or hydraulic): 5‑6 months
-
With module splitting / special mounting: 6‑7 months
-
Remote control / extreme customization: 7‑8 months
Why Choose SJ for the SHXJ90?
Reason
Practical Benefit
Hundreds of light workover rigs delivered
We’re not guessing. The SHXJ90 design has been refined over 20+ years and 80+ units.
Ultra‑low deck load
Many platforms can’t take a 70‑ton rig but can handle 55 tons. That’s the difference between installing and not installing.
Dual drive flexibility
One basic design, two power options. If your platform’s power situation changes, we can convert (e.g., electric to hydraulic) with a retrofit kit.
Field service from people who’ve used these rigs
Our offshore supervisors have personally run SHXJ90s. They know the common issues (which are few) and how to fix them fast.
Sinopec backing – but with small‑company responsiveness
Big enough to have global spares, small enough to answer your call within 24 hours.
Straightforward documentation
Operator manuals in plain English (not translated from Chinese by software). Laminated quick‑cards for each workstation.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: What’s the difference between SHXJ90 and HXJ135?
A: SHXJ90 is smaller (900kN vs 1,350kN hook load), lighter deck load (~53 tons vs ~78 tons), and cheaper. HXJ135 can handle deeper wells (3,500m vs 3,000m) and slightly heavier pulls. If your wells are under 3,000m and crane capacity is under 15 tons, take the SHXJ90.
Q2: Can I use the SHXJ90 on a platform with a 5‑ton crane?
A: Yes – but we’ll need to split the mast into 4 sections (max 4.8 tons). The drawworks/power unit would be the heaviest at ~5.2 tons, which may exceed 5 tons. Alternative: use a small davit or manual winch for that module. Or choose the hydraulic version and place the power unit on the supply boat deck with long hoses (we’ve done this).
Q3: How much fuel does the hydraulic version use?
A: At typical workover load (~60% power), about 18‑22 liters per hour. A 500‑liter day tank runs for a full 24‑hour shift. For intermittent work, a 200‑liter tank is fine.
Q4: Can I run the electric version from a portable generator on the platform?
A: Yes – as long as the generator provides 380‑480V, 120 kVA continuous (150 kVA peak). We can supply a weatherproof generator skid as an option.
Q5: What kind of warranty?
A: 18 months from shipment or 12 months from commissioning. For the hydraulic version, pumps and motors have 24 months. Wear items (hoses, seals, brake pads) are not covered – but they’re cheap and locally available.
Q6: Do you provide training?
A: Standard: 2 days on‑site (classroom + hands‑on) for up to 6 crew. We also offer a "train the trainer” package where we certify one of your senior crew to train others.
Q7: What spares should I keep on the platform?
A: We provide a recommended spares kit for 12 months: hydraulic hoses (set), seal kit, pressure filter, brake pads, and a few sensors for the electric version. Cost ~3‑4% of rig price.
Q8: Can the SHXJ90 be used for snubbing?
A: Not directly – it’s a conventional workover rig. But we can add a snubbing unit interface (guide beams and hydraulic connections) so you can bring a portable snubbing unit onto the platform and use the SHXJ90’s mast for support.
Q9: What is the typical delivery lead time?
A: Standard SHXJ90 (electric or hydraulic) – 5 months from order. Custom module splits add 1 month. We’ve done rush orders in 4 months – but that requires existing stock of major components.
Q10: How do I get a firm quote?
A: Email workover@sjpetro.com with:
-
Platform crane capacity (tons)
-
Typical well depth and tubing size
-
Do you have platform AC power? (Y/N)
-
Any deck space constraints (sketch or photo helps)
We’ll reply with a budget quote in 3‑5 days and a technical questionnaire.
