Product Types – Desert Drilling Rigs We Manufacture
ZJ Series Desert AC Variable Frequency Drilling Rigs (ZJ30–ZJ90)
Full AC VFD drive with all-digital control. K-type mast, rotary box-on-base substructure. Suitable for deep and ultra-deep desert wells. Available in modular fast-moving and skidding configurations. Our ZJ90DB model has been proven in Kuwait’s northern oilfield.
Truck-Mounted Desert Drilling Rigs
Self-propelled units mounted on all-drive off-road chassis with desert tires. Fast road transport without disassembly. Ideal for shallow to medium-depth desert drilling where rapid relocation between dispersed wells is essential.
Fast-Moving & Quick-Installation Desert Rigs (BE Series)
Jointly developed with LOADMASTER. Special module and trailer-mounted construction. No crane required for rig-up. Reduces conventional rig move time from 10–15 days to significantly faster deployment.
Desert Skidding Drilling Rigs
Purpose-built for multi-well pad drilling. The rig moves on rails or skid system from one well to the next without teardown. Essential for high-density cluster well operations in desert fields.
Heli-Transportable Desert Drilling Rigs
Modular components designed for helicopter lift capacity. For remote desert locations without road access – think deep Sahara, Rub’ al Khali, or other roadless basins.
Desert Workover Rigs (SXJ Series)
Light to medium-duty rigs for well servicing and workover operations in desert environments. Our SXJ550 model has been successfully deployed and operated in Niger’s Sahara region.
Applications – Where Our Desert Drilling Rigs Are Working
Middle East Oil & Gas Fields
Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Oman, Qatar. We’ve supplied desert drilling rigs to national oil companies and international contractors across the region. Our ZJ90DB rigs are currently working Kuwait’s northern oilfields, and we maintain active business relationships with Saudi Aramco, Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), and Oman’s PDO.
North African Sahara Operations
Libya, Algeria, Egypt, Niger. The Sahara demands the highest level of desert engineering – extreme heat, soft sand, and long logistics chains. Our desert drilling rigs and workover units have been deployed across the region, including SXJ550 units operating in Niger.
Central Asian Desert Basins
Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan. Desert and semi-desert conditions with additional extreme temperature swings between seasons.
Ultra-Deep Desert Well Drilling
When your target reservoir sits 9,000 meters down in a desert basin, you need a rig that can handle both the depth and the surface environment. Our ZJ90DB desert drilling rigs are rated for 9,000-meter drilling and have been proven in both China’s northwest ultra-deep wells and Kuwait’s deep oil plays.
Multi-Well Pad Drilling
For high-density desert field development, our skidding desert rigs move between wells without breakdown – maximizing uptime and minimizing per-well cost.
Why Choose SJ Petroleum Machinery for Your Desert Drilling Rig?
Proven in the Middle East – The World’s Toughest Desert Drilling Market
The Middle East isn’t a training ground. It’s the major league. National oil companies here apply the world’s most exacting standards. We’ve earned our place. Six ZJ90DB desert drilling rigs in Kuwait – delivered. Saudi Aramco supplier certification – achieved. Oman PDO business relationships – established. Our parent company Sinopec Petroleum Engineering Machinery has been named a key supplier to ADNOC, with strategic cooperation agreements and joint R&D programs.
API-Certified Quality – You Can Verify It
API 4F, 7K, 8C – we carry the monograms. ISO9001, HSE, GOST Russia, CE – we maintain them. Third-party inspections are not just permitted; they’re routine. Customers have full visibility into our manufacturing process, from raw material sourcing through final assembly.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: What’s the maximum operating temperature your desert drilling rigs can handle?
A: Our desert drilling rigs are designed for continuous operation in ambient temperatures up to 55°C (131°F). We incorporate forced water or heavy-duty air cooling for drawworks systems, high-temperature hydraulic fluids, and sealed electronics enclosures to maintain reliability in extreme heat.
Q2: How fast can your desert rig move between wells?
A: That depends on the specific model and terrain. Our fast-moving desert rigs are engineered to reduce conventional rig move times significantly. While a standard rig might require 10–15 days of teardown, transport, and reassembly, our modular and skidding designs cut that substantially. For specific timeline estimates based on your well spacing and terrain, contact our engineering team.
Q3: What certifications do your desert drilling rigs hold?
A: API 4F, 7K, and 8C with API monogram authorization. We also maintain ISO9001, ISO14001, HSE, GOST (Russia), and CE certifications for applicable export markets. Full certification documentation is available upon request.
Q4: Do you customize rigs for specific desert regions (Sahara vs. Arabian Desert vs. Central Asia)?
A: Yes. Desert conditions vary significantly by region. Sahara operations face extreme heat and soft sand. Arabian Desert operations combine heat with high-density pad drilling requirements. Central Asian deserts add extreme temperature seasonality. We adjust cooling capacity, filtration specifications, mobility systems, and material selections based on your specific operating environment.
Q5: Can I send my own inspector to your factory during manufacturing?
A: Absolutely. Third-party inspections and customer factory acceptance testing are standard practice. You or your designated representative are welcome to be present throughout the manufacturing process – from raw material inspection through final assembly and load testing.
Q6: What’s your typical lead time for a desert drilling rig?
A: Standard lead times range from 6 to 12 months from order confirmation to shipment, depending on the model, customization level, and current production schedule. Expedited delivery can be discussed for urgent requirements.
Q7: Do you supply spare parts globally?
A: Yes. We maintain a global spare parts inventory and can ship critical components within 48–72 hours for most standard parts. For fleet operators, we offer consignment inventory programs to ensure parts availability at your operating base.
Q8: What payment terms do you offer?
A: Standard payment terms are negotiable based on order size and customer credit history. Typical arrangements include Letter of Credit (L/C) or Telegraphic Transfer (T/T) with milestone payments tied to manufacturing and delivery milestones.
Q9: Do you provide onsite training for my crews?
A: Yes. Our field service engineers travel with each major rig shipment to oversee assembly, commissioning, and initial operations. We also provide comprehensive training programs for your crews – either at our facility in Jingzhou or onsite at your location.
Q10: How do I get a quotation for a desert drilling rig?
A: Contact our international sales team with your project specifications: target drilling depth, well count and spacing (for mobility requirements), ambient temperature range, terrain type, power preference (diesel, electric, or hybrid), and any specific certification requirements. We’ll respond within 48 hours with an initial technical assessment and quotation timeline.
