Applications of Our Workover Rig Technology

Our technology is deployed globally in these scenarios:

Application Why Our Technology Excels
Mature field rework Fast pad-to-pad moves, low daily operating cost
Offshore platform intervention Compact footprint, corrosion-resistant electronics
High-pressure gas wells Snubbing-ready, 10k psi BOP integration
Sour service (H2S) NACE-compliant materials and sealed components
Environmentally sensitive areas Electric drive (zero emissions) or spill-containment packages
Deep well fishing High hook load + precise snubbing control for milling
Remote desert operations Hydraulic drive with sand filters and high-ambient cooling

Product Types Based on Technology Platform

We categorize our workover rig technology into three core platforms:

Platform Drive Best For Key Tech Feature
SJW-H Series Hydraulic Remote land sites, no grid power Load-sensing pump, 25% fuel saving
SJW-E Series Electric AC-VFD Offshore platforms, urban fields Regenerative braking, silent operation
SJW-X Series Hybrid (e-drive + hydraulic aux) Large offshore / high-spec land Redundant power, BOP stays on hydraulics

Each platform can be further customized with snubbing, automated pipe handling, or remote monitoring. We also provide technology upgrade kits for older workover rigs (adding VFD control, digital HMI, or snubbing integration).

Why Choose SJ Petroleum Machinery for Workover Rig Technology?

1. We Are a Technology Developer, Not Just an Assembler
Many suppliers bolt together commercial components. We design our own control software, hydraulic manifolds, and snubbing jacks. That means faster customization and better support.

2. Field-Proven Reliability
As of 2025, over 120 of our workover rigs are in operation across 18 countries. Mean time between failures (MTBF) exceeds 4,500 hours – benchmarked against major European and American brands.

3. Technology that Evolves
We release two major software updates per year for our Workover iSys platform. Clients with active service contracts receive them free. No mandatory hardware upgrades.

4. Transparent Technology Transfer
We provide full PLC logic documentation, hydraulic schematics, and training on how to troubleshoot the system. You are not locked into proprietary black boxes.

5. Competitive Lifecycle Cost
Our electric workover rig technology consumes 40% less energy than comparable hydraulic units (when grid power is available). Our hydraulic units have 30% fewer hoses than industry average – less leakage, lower maintenance.

6. Global Tech Support
Our engineers are available 24/7 for remote troubleshooting. We have regional tech centers in Houston, Dubai, and Singapore with spare control boards, sensors, and hydraulic cartridges.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What is the biggest technological advance in workover rigs in the past 5 years?
Two advances: (1) affordable VFD control for electric workover rigs – giving precise speed and torque at lower cost, and (2) integrated snubbing stacks that allow safe live-well workovers without a separate snubbing unit. We offer both.

Q2: Can I retrofit your technology to my existing workover rig?
Yes. We offer retrofit packages: digital HMI + sensors, hydraulic manifold upgrade, or adding snubbing capacity. We need to inspect your rig’s structural condition first. Contact us for a retrofit assessment.

Q3: How does your hybrid drive work in practice?
Main drawworks is electric (VFD) for quiet, efficient running. Auxiliary systems – BOP, catwalk, jacking – run on a small hydraulic power unit (15–30 HP). If grid power fails, the hydraulic system can still close BOPs and lift the string a few stands using battery backup.

Q4: Is your snubbing technology rated for H2S (sour service)?
Absolutely. We build snubbing stacks with NACE MR0175-compliant stainless steels and elastomers. We also supply H2S sensors integrated into the control system – they automatically increase BOP closing pressure if H2S is detected.

Q5: What kind of data does Workover iSys collect?
Hook load, block position, rotary torque (if equipped), pump pressure and volume, engine hours, fault logs, and operator inputs (brake, throttle, clutch). Data is stored locally and optionally sent to your server or our cloud. No subscription fees for basic monitoring.

Q6: How long does training take for your technology?
For experienced workover crews: 5 days classroom + 5 days field (supervised operations). For new crews: 2 weeks classroom + 2 weeks field. We provide a simulation environment for practice.

Q7: Do you offer a rental option to test the technology first?
Yes. We have a rental fleet of SJW-H and SJW-E rigs (150k–250k lb classes). Minimum rental period 3 months. Rental includes remote monitoring and one onsite tech support visit per month.

Q8: What is the typical payback period for upgrading to your electric workover rig technology?
Assuming 200 operating days per year, fuel savings vs. diesel-hydraulic can pay back the premium within 18–24 months. Offshore (where fuel logistics are expensive) payback can be under 12 months.

Q9: Can your workover rig technology handle coiled tubing operations?
Not directly – coiled tubing requires a separate injector head. However, many clients use our rig as a support unit (lifting coiled tubing reels, providing circulation, and handling BOPs). We can add a coiled tubing interface.

Q10: Do you provide custom software features?
Yes. We have an in-house software team. If you need a specific report format, integration with your existing well data system (WITSML), or custom safety interlocks, we can develop it. Minimum lead time 3 months for software customizations.
