Product Types – Workover Rig Chassis Portfolio

We manufacture complete chassis as part of our workover rig packages, but we also supply standalone carriers:

  1. Complete Workover Rig Chassis (WRC Series) – Fully integrated chassis with engine, transmission, axles, suspension, and cab. Ready to accept the mast, drawworks, and hydraulics from our rig factory.

  2. Bare Chassis for Customer Mounting – Frame, axles, suspension, steering, and wheels only. You supply your own engine and driveline or mount a non‑propelled workover package. Ideal for companies with their own power trains.

  3. Trailer‑Mounted Workover Carrier – Semi‑trailer chassis with a detachable gooseneck. The rig is pulled by a separate tractor. Lower cost than self‑propelled chassis, but less maneuverable on tight pads.

  4. Tracked Workover Carrier – For extremely soft ground (swamps, rice paddies). Steel or rubber tracks replace wheels. Much lower ground pressure, but road travel requires a low‑boy trailer.

  5. Offshore Skid Base (not a wheeled chassis) – For platform workover rigs, we supply skid‑mounted bases with integrated lifting points and tie‑downs. No chassis suspension needed.

Applications – Where Our Workover Rig Chassis Excels

The right workover rig chassis keeps your service fleet moving in these environments:

  • Remote onshore fields with unimproved roads – Deep ruts, soft shoulders, and steep grades. Our 10x8 and 12x8 chassis with CTIS and locking differentials pull through where 4x2 trucks get stuck.

  • Desert operations – Sand is the enemy of standard tires. Our central tire inflation system (CTIS) and desert‑rated air filters keep the rig moving between wells spaced miles apart.

  • Arctic / Siberia – Cold‑weather packages with heated batteries, fuel, and cab keep crews comfortable and engines starting at -40°C. Arctic rubber compounds in tires prevent flat‑spotting.

  • Mountainous terrain – Steep grades and switchbacks require short wheelbases and high power‑to‑weight ratios. Our 6x6 chassis with automatic transmission handles 20% grades.

  • Urban infill drilling – Noise restrictions and tight turns. Our rear‑steer chassis turn in their own length. Electric over hydraulic outriggers are quiet and clean.

  • Swamp / wetland drilling – Flotation is everything. Our tracked carrier or 12x8 chassis with very low tire pressure (10 PSI) spreads the load to under 5 PSI ground pressure.

Why Choose SJ Petro for Workover Rig Chassis?

  • Sinopec‑backed manufacturing – Direct subsidiary of China’s largest oilfield equipment group. Our 180,000+ m² plant and 314 R&D engineers build chassis that meet both oilfield and highway standards.

  • 80+ years of rig integration experience – We do not just build chassis; we build the entire workover rig. That means the chassis and top‑side are designed together. No mismatched bolt patterns or poorly placed outriggers.

  • API 8C & DOT certified – Your chassis comes with certification for both oilfield service and road transport. We can also provide CE marking for European markets.

  • Proven in extreme climates – From the Sahara to Siberia, our chassis have logged millions of miles. We supply references upon request.

  • Custom engineering – Need a longer wheelbase for a taller mast? Tighter turning radius for city work? Dual steering positions? Just ask. Our engineers custom‑design each chassis to your mast and well site layout.

  • Global parts support – We stock chassis‑specific parts (axle components, suspension bushings, steering cylinders) in Dubai, Singapore, and Houston (agent). Standard airfreight: 3‑5 days.

  • Short lead times – Standard chassis: 120 days from order to factory acceptance. Custom chassis: 150‑180 days. We hold inventory of major components (engines, transmissions, axles).

  • Direct manufacturer pricing – No middleman. You pay the factory price for a Sinopec‑designed carrier.

  • 12‑month warranty (extendable) – Covers all chassis components. Extended warranty up to 36 months available.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What is the difference between a workover rig chassis and a standard heavy truck chassis?
A standard truck chassis is designed for highway use and moderate loads. A workover rig chassis has a much stronger frame (HSLA steel vs. standard carbon steel), walking beam suspension (vs. leaf springs), and integrated outrigger hardpoints. It also has provisions for PTO‑driven hydraulic systems and much lower gearing for off‑road creeping.

Q2: Can I mount a mast from another manufacturer on your chassis?
Yes — we offer bare chassis for customer mounting. We need the mast’s base plate dimensions, center of gravity, and expected operational loads. We will then design the chassis frame with the correct mounting hardpoints and outrigger placements.

Q3: What is the typical highway travel speed of a workover rig chassis?
Fully loaded, our chassis are governed to 50‑55 mph (80‑90 km/h) for safety. Unloaded, they can reach 65 mph (105 km/h) on level ground. The limiting factor is tire speed rating, not the engine.

Q4: Do I need a special driver’s license to operate this chassis?
In most jurisdictions, yes. Because the GVWR exceeds 26,000 lbs (12 tons), a commercial driver’s license (CDL) is required. Many of our chassis also require over‑dimension permits due to width (often 8.5‑10 ft) and length.

Q5: Can your chassis be converted to left‑hand drive?
Yes. Our standard export chassis are built with left‑hand drive (LHD). Right‑hand drive (RHD) is available for markets like Australia, UK, and India. The cab design is mirrored.

Q6: What kind of maintenance does the chassis require?
Routine: engine oil and filter changes per engine manufacturer (usually 250‑500 hours). Suspension bushings should be greased every 1,000 miles. Axle oil changes every 5,000 miles. The walking beam pins should be inspected annually for wear. We provide a full maintenance schedule.

Q7: How does the central tire inflation system (CTIS) work?
From the cab, the operator selects a terrain mode (highway, gravel, sand, mud, emergency). The system automatically adds or releases air from all tires (or selected axles) to the preset pressure. It can also deflate tires on the move.

Q8: Can your chassis operate without outriggers for short moves on the pad?
No — the suspension is not designed to support the rig during workover operations. Outriggers must be deployed on location to lift the chassis off its tires. For very short moves (under 100 ft), you can keep the mast raised but must have outriggers extended.

Q9: What is the typical lifespan of a workover rig chassis?
With proper maintenance, 15‑20 years. The frame itself is designed for infinite life. Wear items (brakes, tires, suspension bushings, axle seals) are replaceable. Many of our chassis from the early 2000s are still in daily service.
