-
Drawworks (AC VFD & DC) – Single or dual motor, single drum or double drum (for shallow rigs). Modular skid with integrated disc brake and auxiliary drive.
-
Crown Block – Over‑mast or under‑mast mounting. Sheaves with oil‑bath bearings or sealed roller bearings. Anti‑reversing pins and crown saver included.
-
Traveling Block & Hook Assembly – API 8C rated. Traveling block with 4 to 8 sheaves depending on line arrangement. Hook with spring‑loaded latch and safety interlock. Optional hook block combos.
-
Deadline Anchor – With or without integrated load cell. Explosion‑proof weight indicator system available.
-
Drilling Hook (standalone) – For top drive adapters or for use with rotary swivel. 150‑1,200 ton ratings.
-
Driller’s Control Console – Touchscreen HMI with joystick, emergency stop, data logging (hook load, depth, trip cycles). Optional remote driller’s station for dual‑control rigs.
-
Wireline Spooling & Storage Reel – For mounting on drawworks skid or separate foundation.
Applications – Where Our Drilling Rig Lifting Systems Work
Our drilling rig lifting systems are installed on:
-
Land drilling rigs (1,000‑4,000 HP) – Multi‑well pad rigs, deep conventional wells, and shallow workover rigs. AC VFD systems provide the speed range needed for both fast tripping and delicate pipe landing.
-
Offshore platform rigs – Compact drawworks with marine coating and explosion‑proof electricals. Operated on South China Sea platforms.
-
Jackup & semi‑submersible rigs – Heave‑compensated traveling blocks and hooks available. Our systems meet ABS/DNV motion requirements.
-
Well servicing rigs (smaller capacity) – 200‑500 HP drawworks with mechanical or hydraulic drive for workover and snubbing.
-
Desert high‑temperature fields – Heavy‑duty cooling packages maintain motor and brake temperatures even when ambient exceeds 50°C.
-
Arctic deep drilling – Cold‑weather drawworks with low‑temperature gear lubricants, heated motor enclosures, and insulated cabs. Proven on 11 rigs for Rosneft.
Why Choose SJ Petro for Your Drilling Rig Lifting System?
-
Sinopec engineering heritage – Direct subsidiary of China’s largest oilfield equipment group. Our 314‑engineer R&D team has designed lifting systems for rigs from 1,000 to 4,000 HP. You get decades of field‑proven refinement.
-
One‑stop integration – We build the drawworks, the blocks, the hook, the anchor, and the control system. No finger‑pointing between component suppliers. One warranty, one support team.
-
API 7K, 8C, 4F certified – Full compliance. We can also supply ABS, DNV, or BV classification for offshore projects.
-
AC VFD technology in‑house – We design and program the VFD drives ourselves, not through a third‑party integrator. That means faster troubleshooting and direct access to source code.
-
Proven in extreme environments – From the Sahara (55°C) to Siberia (-45°C), our lifting systems have logged millions of drilling hours. References available.
-
Global service & spare parts – Our field engineers commission systems worldwide. We stock critical spares (brake pads, bearings, sensors, VFD boards) in Dubai, Singapore, and Houston (agent).
-
Competitive direct manufacturer pricing – No distributor markup. You pay the factory price for Sinopec‑level quality.
-
Fast lead times – Standard drawworks (1,500‑2,000 HP): 6‑8 months. Full lifting system package: 8‑10 months. Rush orders possible.
-
Warranty – 18 months from shipment or 12 months from commissioning. Extendable to 36 months.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: What is the advantage of an AC VFD drawworks over a DC or mechanical drawworks?
AC VFD gives you infinitely variable speed from 0 to max with full torque at low speed. There is no mechanical clutch to slip or wear. Regenerative braking returns energy to the grid, saving fuel on generator‑powered rigs. AC motors are also more reliable and easier to maintain than DC motors.
Q2: Do you offer a mechanical drawworks (geared clutch and band brake)?
We can still supply mechanical drawworks for customers who prefer them or for extremely low‑budget rigs. However, the industry has largely moved to AC VFD due to lower life‑cycle cost and better safety.
Q3: How do I choose the right lifting system capacity for my rig?
You need to match the hook load rating to your maximum expected drill string weight plus casing loads. A common rule: for 5,000 m depth using 5” drill pipe, a 450‑600 ton hook load is sufficient. For deeper wells (7,000‑9,000 m) or heavy casing, 900‑1,200 tons. Send us your well plan – we will calculate the required rating.
Q4: Can your lifting system be retrofitted to an existing rig from another manufacturer?
Yes – we have retrofitted AC VFD drawworks to rigs with original mechanical or DC systems. We also sell replacement crown blocks, traveling blocks, and hooks as drop‑in upgrades. Provide your existing mounting dimensions.
Q5: What safety features are included?
Standard: crown‑out protection (optical sensors that stop the hoist), emergency brake (spring‑applied disc), over‑speed protection, motor overload protection, and a deadman handle on the driller’s joystick. We can also add block position display with programmable setpoints.
Q6: How often do disc brake pads need replacement?
With normal drilling and tripping, brake pad life is typically 3,000‑5,000 operating hours. The AC regenerative brake handles most deceleration – the disc brake is primarily for parking and emergency stops. This extends pad life significantly compared to pure mechanical brakes.
Q7: Do you provide training for rig crews on the new lifting system?
Yes. We send a service engineer to your site for 1‑2 weeks of classroom and hands‑on training: normal operation, emergency procedures, brake inspection, and VFD parameter adjustments. We also provide a full operations manual and remote support.
Q8: What is the typical lead time for a complete lifting system?
For a 1,500 HP AC VFD drawworks plus traveling block, hook, and crown block: approximately 8‑10 months from order to factory acceptance test (FAT). Urgent orders can be expedited to 6 months for some capacity classes.
Q9: Can I witness the factory load test before shipment?
Absolutely. We invite customers to visit our 180,000 m² plant in Jingzhou, China. We will perform a full load test with calibrated load cells and provide a test report signed by our QA manager. Virtual witness via video call is also available.
