Applications – Where Our Workover Rigs Are Used
Our well intervention equipment is deployed globally across:
| Sector | Specific Use Cases |
|---|---|
| Onshore conventional oil | Tubing changeout, pump repair, sand cleanout |
| Shale / tight gas | Batch workover on multi-well pads, fracture plug milling |
| Offshore platforms | Workover through platform slots, P&A campaigns |
| Coalbed methane | Shallow, frequent pump servicing – our mobile rigs excel here |
| Heavy oil (thermal) | Replace production tubing damaged by heat cycles |
| Geothermal | Scale removal, pump replacement in hot, corrosive brines |
Product Types – Choose Your Configuration
We categorize our workover rigs into five core types to help you select quickly:
| Type | Hook Load | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Hydraulic skid rig | 90k – 300k lbs | Remote land wells, desert, no grid power |
| Electric skid rig | 150k – 250k lbs | Offshore, urban, or environmentally sensitive sites |
| Mobile truck rig | 90k – 150k lbs | Scattered wells, workover contractors, fast moves |
| Mobile trailer rig | 150k – 200k lbs | Heavier pulls than truck, softer terrain |
| Snubbing workover rig | 100k – 300k lbs | Live-well interventions, high pressure |

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: What is the difference between a workover rig and a service rig?
The terms are often used interchangeably. In general, "workover rig” refers to heavier units (90k+ lbs) that can pull tubing and casing, while "service rig” sometimes means lighter units for rod pumping. Our rigs cover both categories.
Q2: Can your workover rig drill new wells?
Light drilling – yes, for top hole or sidetracking. For full new well drilling, we recommend our dedicated drilling rigs. The same mast and drawworks can handle light drilling if equipped with a top drive and mud pumps.
Q3: How long does it take to rig up your workover rig?
-
Skid-mounted on prepared pad: 1–2 days (depending on crew size)
-
Mobile truck rig: 1.5 – 2 hours from arrival to first stand pulled
-
Trailer rig: 2 – 3 hours
Q4: Do you offer rental workover rigs?
Yes. We have a rental fleet of SJW-150 and SJW-200 models (hydraulic, skid-mounted). Minimum rental period 3 months. Rental includes maintenance support and one free rig move per month.
Q5: What training do you provide?
Standard package: 5 classroom days + 5 field days at your site. We also offer simulator-based training at our Jingzhou facility. All training materials in English (other languages available at extra cost).
Q6: Can you supply a workover rig with a top drive instead of a rotary table?
Yes. Top drive allows faster make/break and drilling of shallow sections. We offer top drives from 150 to 500 tons. Tell us your torque requirements.
Q7: Are your workover rigs suitable for Arctic / low-temperature conditions?
Yes. We offer a cold-weather package: heated cabins, synthetic hydraulic fluid (down to -40°C), insulated hoses, and battery warmers. Several units operating in Kazakhstan and Canada.
Q8: What is your payment term?
Typically 30% deposit, 30% upon major component completion, 30% before shipment, 10% after commissioning. Letters of credit from major banks accepted. We can negotiate for repeat clients.
Q9: Do you provide on-site commissioning?
Yes. Our commissioning engineer travels to your location, oversees assembly, runs load tests, and trains your crew. Commissioning typically takes 5–10 days. Travel and accommodation are billed at cost.
Q10: How do I get a quote for a workover rig?
Fill out our online RFQ form or email sales@sjpetro.com. Please provide: desired hook load, well depth and tubing size, land or offshore, drive preference (hydraulic/electric), and any special requirements (snubbing, cold weather, etc.).
