Product Types – Choose Your Configuration

SJ Petro manufactures the full XJ and ZJ series truck mounted rigs, with options for chassis, power, mast height, and automation level.

1. XJ150–XJ350 Light Workover & Shallow Drilling Rigs

Best for shallow well workover, oil testing, fishing, pump checks, and light drilling. The XJ250 is a light-duty self-propelled rig with a single-drum drawworks, hydraulically raised double or single mast, and Allison hydromechanical transmission. The XJ350 has been widely adopted in the United States, where hundreds of units with American flag derricks operate across Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas – a testament to the model’s international acceptance.

2. XJ450–XJ650 Medium Workover & Dual-Purpose Rigs

Best for deeper workover (5,000–7,500m) and shallow to medium drilling (up to 2,500m). These dual-purpose machines can handle heavy repairs when equipped with optional substructures and full drilling packages. The XJ550–850 series is designed according to the principle of "advanced performance, reliable operation, convenient mobilization, economic operation and meeting HSE requirements,” with performance meeting or exceeding international comparable workover rigs.

3. ZJ30–ZJ40 Heavy Drilling Rigs & Ultra-Deep Workover

Best for dedicated drilling operations to 4,000m and ultra-deep workover to 10,000m. The ZJ40 truck mounted drilling rig is SJ Petro’s best-selling mobile drilling rig, offering exceptional heavy-duty workover and mobile drilling capability for complex terrain and remote areas. It adopts double Caterpillar C18 engines with dual Allison M6620AR transmissions, an auxiliary KOBELT disc air brake system, and a 14×10 self-propelled chassis. A 10,000-meter truck-mounted workover rig has also been developed and successfully deployed, filling the gap in ultra-deep workover equipment.

4. Cold-Weather Arctic Package

Best for Siberian, Canadian, and other high-latitude operations. SJ Petro has designed and delivered three ZJ40 truck-mounted cold-weather drilling rigs to Russia as specially designed mature products for arctic areas. The package includes preheating and warming systems, low-temperature hydraulics, engine block heaters, and specialized cold-start procedures.

5. Custom Chassis & Power Configurations

Every XJ350 rig is developed based on different chassis, engines, and configurations to achieve various types of operation. Choose from Caterpillar C9, Detroit S60, or other engine brands. Select between single-drum and double-drum drawworks. Specify mast height (25m, 29m, or 31m on XJ350). We build to your operational requirements – not a one-size-fits-all solution.

Applications – Where Our Truck Mounted Drilling Technology Excels

  • Remote exploration drilling – self-propelled rigs access locations where roads end and conventional rigs can’t reach.

  • Cluster well development – move between closely spaced wellheads in hours, not days, using integrated chassis mobility.

  • Heavy workover campaigns – restore production in mature fields without the cost of a full drilling spread.

  • Ultra-deep well intervention – 10,000m-capable rigs for HPHT deep gas wells exceeding 9,000 meters.

  • Arctic and extreme environment drilling -45°C-rated rigs with preheating systems designed for Siberian conditions.

  • Desert operations – sand-resistant seals and cooling systems for 50°C ambient temperatures.

  • Offshore platform support – skid-mounted variants available (not truck-mounted) for platform installation.

Why Choose SJ Petro for Truck Mounted Drilling Technology?

Because a mobile rig is only valuable if it moves when you need it and drills when it arrives.

Your Concern SJ Petro’s Answer
"We need to move between wells weekly. Conventional rig moves cost days.” Self-propelled 14×10 chassis – drive to next well, rig up in hours. Complete elimination of lowboy transport.
"Our roads are rough. Will the rig make it?” 6×6 to 14×10 full-drive configurations. Dedicated all-terrain chassis designs for desert and arctic conditions.
"We drill deep – 4,000m. Can a truck mounted rig handle that?” ZJ40 delivers 4,000m drilling depth, 2,250 kN hook load, 24m mast. Not a "light” rig by any measure.
"What if an engine fails mid-job?” Dual-engine configuration with independent clutches. One engine can often complete the job at reduced rate.
*"We operate in Russia at -45°C. Standard rigs won’t start.”* We delivered three arctic-class ZJ40 rigs to Russia – preheat systems, cold-weather hydraulics, insulated cabs.
"API certification is mandatory for our tender.” Full API 4F, 7K, 8C compliance. API monogram available upon request.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) – Truck Mounted Drilling Technology

Q1: What is the difference between a truck mounted drilling rig and a skid-mounted rig?

A: Truck mounted – Entire rig (mast, drawworks, controls) is permanently mounted on a self-propelled chassis. It drives itself to location, folds its own mast, and rigs up without a crane. Best for: frequent moves, remote locations, cluster wells.

Skid mounted – Rig is mounted on steel skids that require a crane for placement and a tractor for transport. Best for: permanent installations, offshore platforms, or locations where road access is good.

Q2: What is the maximum drilling depth of your truck mounted rigs?

A: Our ZJ40 truck mounted drilling rig reaches 4,000m (13,120 ft) with 4-1/2″ drill pipe. For workover operations, the same rig can handle 10,000m depth. SJ Petro has also developed a specialized 10,000-meter truck-mounted workover rig for ultra-deep applications.

Q3: Can these rigs be used for both drilling and workover?

A: Yes. The ZJ series is designed for dual-purpose operation – full drilling capability plus heavy workover. The XJ series is primarily workover-focused but can drill shallow wells (1,500–2,500m) with optional substructures and drilling packages. The XJ350, for example, is available in configurations for well workover, well service, and well drilling.

Q4: What engines and transmissions do you use?

A: We use Caterpillar and Detroit diesel engines with Allison oilfield series transmissions. On the ZJ40, dual Caterpillar C18 engines (630 HP each) are paired with dual Allison M6620AR transmissions. On the XJ350, customers can choose between Caterpillar C9 (260 kW) and Detroit S60 (298 kW) with Allison 4700 OFS or M5610s transmissions.

Q5: How fast can the rig travel on roads?

A: Maximum travel speed is 45 km/h (28 mph) for all ZJ and XJ series rigs in transport configuration. The chassis is designed for road travel, not highway racing – the speed is sufficient for regional moves between well pads.

Q6: What is the rig-up time from arrival to drilling?

A: With a trained crew of 4–5 people, typical rig-up time (unfold mast, connect hydraulic and electrical systems, level the rig, pressure test) is 4–6 hours for a ZJ40-class rig. Smaller XJ-series rigs can rig up in 3–4 hours.

Q7: What cold-weather capabilities do your rigs have?

A: SJ Petro has supplied three ZJ40 truck-mounted cold-weather drilling rigs to Russia, designed specifically for arctic areas. Features include preheating and warming systems, low-temperature hydraulic fluids, engine block heaters, battery warmers, and insulated control cabs. Operating temperature range is -45°C to 50°C.

Q8: Do you have rigs operating in the United States?

A: Yes. The XJ350 has been widely adopted in the United States, with hundreds of units in operation across Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas – many with American flag-colored derricks as a signature of their presence.

Q9: Are your rigs API certified?

A: Yes. SJ Petro truck mounted rigs are designed and manufactured to API 4F (structures), API 7K (drilling equipment), and API 8C (hoisting equipment) specifications. API monogram is available upon request for qualified applications.

Q10: What is the lead time for a truck mounted rig?

A: Standard lead times from order confirmation:

  • XJ350 (standard chassis): 4–5 months

  • ZJ30–ZJ40 (standard configuration): 5–7 months

  • Custom builds (special chassis, arctic package): 7–9 months

  • Used/refurbished rigs: Check current inventory

Q11: What spare parts do you recommend stocking?

A: For a typical truck mounted rig operating 2,000–3,000 hours per year, we recommend:

  • 1 set of drawworks brake bands or pads

  • 2 sets of mast raising hydraulic seals

  • 1 set of rotary table seals

  • 2–3 sets of air filter, oil filter, and fuel filter elements

  • Spare engine belts, hoses, and fittings

  • Assorted grease fittings and hydraulic couplers

We provide a detailed recommended spares list with each purchase.

Q12: Do you provide operator and maintenance training?

A: Yes. For every truck mounted rig purchase, we include:

  • 1 week of on-site training during commissioning (up to 5 students)

  • Digital operation and maintenance manuals

  • 3 months of remote video support after delivery

  • Access to online training portal

Additional training (factory courses, extended on-site) is available at extra cost.

Q13: What is the warranty on a truck mounted rig?

A: 12 months after commissioning or 18 months after shipment – whichever occurs first. The warranty covers manufacturing defects on all components (chassis, engine, transmission, drawworks, mast, hydraulics). Wear items are not covered but included in the spare parts kit. Extended warranty available.
