Why Choose Us as Your Drill Bit Supplier?
-
Sinopec‑backed quality – We are a direct subsidiary of Sinopec Oilfield Equipment Corporation, with access to the R&D resources of a national‑level technical center. Our manufacturing campus spans 180,000+ m², with 2,100+ precision machines and 314 dedicated R&D engineers.
-
API Spec 7‑1 certified – Every bit is manufactured to the rigorous standards of API Specification 7‑1, covering rotary drill stem elements including drilling and coring bits. Third‑party inspection (ABS, DNV, BV, SGS) is always welcome.
-
Complete formation coverage – From IADC 1‑1‑1 steel tooth bits to IADC 8‑3‑7 TCI bits, we stock or manufacture bits for every formation type. No more settling for a "close enough” bit that wastes footage.
-
In‑house technical support – Our drilling engineers can help you select the optimal IADC code based on your specific lithology and bit records. We do not just take orders — we help you plan.
-
Competitive direct‑manufacturer pricing – As an OEM manufacturer, we eliminate trading company markups. You pay factory‑direct prices for Sinopec‑level quality, typically 15‑25% below Western brands for equivalent API certification.
-
Fast lead times – Standard bits (common sizes 6" to 17 1/2") are stocked for immediate shipment. Custom IADC codes and non‑standard sizes: 20‑30 days.
-
Global logistics – We have shipped to over 30 countries. Our export team handles all documentation, including Certificates of Origin, commercial invoices, and packing lists.
-
Warranty & after‑sales support – All drill bits are backed by a manufacturer’s warranty against material and workmanship defects. We also provide failure analysis on returned bits to help you optimize drilling parameters for future runs.
Applications – Where Our Drill Bits Excel
Our drill bits are field‑proven in:
-
Oil & gas exploration and development wells – Onshore and offshore, from shallow directional wells to deep vertical wells.
-
Geothermal drilling – Our TCI bits handle the high temperatures and abrasive crystalline formations common in geothermal fields. Metal‑sealed bearings are standard for enhanced thermal tolerance.
-
Water well drilling – Steel tooth bits for rapid penetration in overburden and soft rock, TCI bits for deeper hard‑rock intervals.
-
Mining and exploration drilling (core holes) – PDC bits and tricone bits for mineral exploration and dewatering wells.
-
Coal bed methane (CBM) – Our bits excel in shallow, interbedded coal and clastic sequences. The combination of steel tooth bits for soft coal and TCI bits for hard stringers is a common fleet strategy.
-
Construction / foundation drilling – Heavy‑duty TCI bits for drilled shafts and micropiles.
-
Directional drilling – Our PDC bits with short parabola profile and balanced blade designs minimize whirl and maximize toolface control.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: How do I choose between a steel tooth bit and a TCI bit?
Steel tooth bits are generally the right choice for soft formations where penetration rate is the priority and bit life is less critical. TCI bits cost more per piece but last much longer in harder, more abrasive formations. As a general rule: IADC codes 1‑3 indicate milled tooth bits (suited for soft‑medium formations), and codes 4‑8 indicate TCI bits (medium‑very hard formations).
Q2: What does an IADC code tell me?
The IADC (International Association of Drilling Contractors) four‑digit code classifies tricone bits by formation type, rock hardness, and bearing/seal design. The first digit (1–8) indicates the series: 1‑3 are steel tooth bits, 4‑8 are TCI bits, with higher numbers corresponding to harder rock formations. The second digit (1–4) indicates the relative hardness within the series, with 4 being the hardest. The third digit refers to bearing and seal type.
Q3: What is the typical weight on bit (WOB) for a tricone bit?
It varies by bit size and IADC code. For steel tooth bits, a common rule is 1‑3 tons per inch of bit diameter. For TCI bits, a common rule is 2‑5 tons per inch of bit diameter. Our specification tables provide recommended WOB in KN/mm for each IADC code.
Q4: What is the difference between a rubber‑sealed and metal‑sealed bearing?
Rubber‑sealed bearings (also called elastomer‑sealed) use a high‑saturation nitrile rubber O‑ring to exclude drilling fluid and retain lubricant. They are excellent for standard temperatures and moderate run lengths. Metal‑sealed bearings use a metal face seal that withstands higher temperatures, higher RPM, and longer runs — ideal for deep, hot wells or extended horizontal sections. Open bearings (no seal) are available for water wells or budget‑sensitive applications, but they have the shortest life.
Q5: Can I buy direct from SJ Petro if I am located outside China?
Yes. We have direct export experience to over 30 countries. We handle all export documentation, including commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, and any required certificates (API, material test reports, etc.).
Q6: How can I get a bit‑drilling performance analysis for my field?
Send us your bit records from the last 5‑10 runs (formation description, IADC code used, footage drilled, dull grade, and average ROP). Our technical team will analyze the data and recommend a bit type or IADC code that could improve your performance.
Q7: Can I ship my dull bits back for performance analysis?
Absolutely. We operate an inspection and testing laboratory accredited by CNACL (China National Accreditation Council for Laboratories). We will inspect your dull bit, grade it according to IADC dull grading standards, and provide a written report identifying wear mechanisms (abrasion, impact damage, balling, etc.) — directly useful for optimizing your drilling parameters.
Q8: What is the typical delivery time for a non‑stocked bit size?
For non‑stocked IADC codes or non‑standard sizes, lead time is approximately 20‑30 days from order confirmation. Custom connection threads may add 10‑15 days.
Q9: Do you provide alternative connections beyond API REG?
Yes. While API REG (regular) is the most common connection for drill bits, we also supply API IF (Internal Flush) and API FH (Full Hole) connections on request. For water well and mining applications, we can provide round thread connections.
