Applications – Where Coiled Tubing Excels

Operation Typical Depth Why CTU is Preferred
Well cleanout (sand, scale, paraffin) Any Continuous circulation removes debris while tripping
Acid matrix stimulation < 5,000m Precise placement, live-well injection
Milling composite / cast iron bridges < 6,000m High torque & WOB control
Through-tubing logging Any No rig needed, lower cost
Perforating (tubing-conveyed) Any Underbalanced perforation saves formation
Velocity string installation < 4,500m Smaller tubing increases gas velocity
Slimhole drilling (1-1/2” to 2-3/8”) < 3,000m Short-radius sidetracks, re-entries
Injection well fall-off tests Any Smooth, constant rate injection

Why Choose SJ Petro for Your Coiled Tubing Unit?

1. Designed by Sinopec Drilling Engineers – Not Desk Theorists

Our CTU designs come directly from field feedback: thousands of well intervention jobs in Sinopec’s own oilfields. We know what wears out, which pump fails, and which BOP seal lasts longest. That knowledge is built into every unit.

2. Customized to Your Well Conditions

We don’t push a standard catalog. Tell us:

  • Tubing size & working pressure

  • Maximum depth (vertical & horizontal)

  • Ambient temperature & terrain

  • Existing wellhead & BOP stack

  • We’ll engineer the injector, reel, and power pack to match.

3. One-Stop Full System Package

You get injector head + reel + tubing + BOP stack + power pack + control cabin + stabbing guide – all tested together. Plus we supply initial coiled tubing pipe (grade CT80, CT100, or CT110) with full mill certs.

4. Safety First – Integrated Well Control

Our CTUs come with a certified BOP stack (quad or tandem), remote ESD, and full HMI alarm system. Stripping operations are monitored in real time. No "add-on” safety afterthoughts.

5. Fast Global Spares & Tubing Supply

We stock common wear parts – injector chains, gripper blocks, packer elements, gauge rings – at regional hubs. For tubing, we can air-freight up to 2,000m of coiled pipe within 7 days.

6. Training & Field Support

Each CTU includes 2 weeks of onsite training: operation, maintenance, emergency procedures, and BOP drills. We also provide a full simulator for crew certification.

7. API Certified & Field Proven

API 7K (injector head, reel), API 16ST (coiled tubing BOP). Units operating in China, Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa with uptime >98%.

FAQ – Coiled Tubing Unit

Q1: What is the typical life of coiled tubing pipe?

A: Depends on cycles and pressure. Under normal workover (cleanout, acidizing) in 3,000m well, 50-80 runs. We recommend tubing fatigue modeling software (we can provide training). Replacement tubing available from our stock.

Q2: Can your CTU work under live well (underbalanced) conditions?

A: Yes. With proper BOP stack and annular control, our units are designed for live-well intervention up to 5,000 psi wellhead pressure. The injector head’s stuffing box and BOP combination keeps well control.

Q3: How long does it take to rig up a truck-mounted CTU on site?

A: 2-4 hours from arrival to first pump start (including rigging up injector mast, spooling tubing through BOP, and pressure testing). Trailer units similar. Skid units on offshore platforms: 8-12 hours.

Q4: Do you supply coiled tubing string separately?

A: Yes. We supply CT pipes from 1.25” to 2.5” OD, grades CT80 to CT110, in lengths up to 9,000m. All API 5ST certified with full traceability. We can also weld connectors and install downhole tools.

Q5: What is your lead time for a standard trailer-mounted CTU (40k lbs injector)?

A: 120-150 days. Customizations (arctic, offshore, dual reel) add 30-60 days. For urgent needs, we sometimes have demo units available.

Q6: Can your CTU be operated by a 3-person crew?

A: Yes. Typical crew: operator (cabin), helper (BOP area), and supervisor. Our automation (joystick injector control, auto-level wind) reduces manpower.

Q7: What kind of pump do you recommend for circulating with CTU?

A: We can integrate a separate high-pressure triplex pump (up to 600 HP) or use existing surface pumps. For acidizing, we supply a dedicated chemical injection pump. Tell us your required rate and pressure.

Q8: Do you offer leasing or contract services (CTU with operator)?

A: Yes. We offer short-term rental (weekly/monthly), long-term lease (12+ months), and full service agreements where we operate the CTU with our crew. Available in most regions with Sinopec service network.
