Product Types – Arctic Drilling Equipment Configurations
We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all. Arctic conditions vary – from the Yamal Peninsula to the Timan-Pechora Basin to the East Siberian fields. Our product lineup covers the full spectrum.
1. Arctic Truck-Mounted Drilling Rig
Best for: Rapid mobilization between well pads, remote locations, regions with established roads.
Our truck-mounted arctic rigs mount the drawworks, engine, mast, and traveling system directly onto a heavy-duty chassis. They’re designed for fast, flexible movement between well pads – critical when winter roads are only open for a short season. The rig can operate normally across the full -45℃ to +45℃ range with low-temperature materials throughout. The ZJ40 model (225-ton hook load, 4,000m drilling depth) has been successfully delivered to the Orenburg Drilling Company in Russia.
Key features:
-
Self-propelled – no separate tractor needed
-
All arctic-grade materials and seals
-
Complete thermal protection package
-
Fast rig-up / rig-down – hours, not days
2. Arctic Low-Temperature Track/Walking Rig
Best for: Soft ground, cluster well pads, locations with no permanent roads.
Our low-temperature track-mounted and walking rigs use hydraulic walking beams or steel rail tracks to move between wells without dismantling. They’re designed specifically for the Yamal region and other high-latitude areas where the ground is either frozen tundra (summer) or soft thaw (spring). The rig’s substructure lifts, advances, and sets down – effectively "walking” across the pad.
We’ve supplied these low-temperature walking rigs to Russian operators through the Siberia project, where they’ve completed multiple drilling seasons in some of the coldest conditions on Earth.
3. Arctic Low-Temperature Rail-Wheel Rig
Best for: Cluster well development on prepared well pads with track systems.
This is the "train-type” arctic rig configuration – all components mounted on steel rails, moved by hydraulic cylinder push. Designed for high-density cluster well operations where wells are spaced closely together. All materials are low-temperature resistant, including the rail wheels and track components.
4. Arctic Low-Temperature Workover Rig (XJ Series)
Best for: Well servicing and intervention in arctic conditions – not just drilling.
Our XJ series self-propelled workover rigs are available in arctic configuration, with maximum static load ranging from 300 to 2,250 kN (67,440 to 505,800 lbs) and installed power from 235 to 1,300 HP. These are the same rigs that have been supplied to Russia as part of their low-temperature workover fleet.
5. Arctic Continuous Coiled Tubing Unit (CTU)
Best for: Well intervention, cleanouts, and workover in extreme cold.
Our low-temperature CTUs have been deployed in Surgut, Russia, for reliable sand washing, paraffin removal, gas lifting, and other well intervention operations – even in ultra-low-temperature environments. The same cold-weather engineering applies: low-temperature hydraulic systems, heated enclosures, and arctic-grade elastomers throughout.
Arctic Drilling Equipment Applications – Where We Deploy
Our arctic equipment is engineered for:
-

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: What is the actual operating temperature range of your arctic drilling equipment?
A: Operating temperature range is -45℃ to +45℃. That’s the window where the rig runs normally without performance degradation. Storage temperature is -60℃ to +45℃. We’ve had rigs endure -50℃ ambient during extreme cold snaps – but for sustained daily operation, -45℃ is our certified limit based on Russian operational standards.
Q2: What standards do your arctic rigs comply with?
A: Our arctic drilling equipment is designed and built to GOST 12.2.141-99 (the Russian national standard for oil and gas equipment in cold climates) and the petroleum industry security requirements ПБ 08-624-03. We also manufacture to API, HSE, GB, and IEC standards.
Q3: Do you have proven deliveries to Russian operators?
A: Yes. SJ Petro has delivered:
-
Multiple ZJ40DB low-temperature drilling rigs to Russian National Oil Company
-
