Product Types

1. Safety Clamp (Drill Collar Safety Clamp)

Used with conventional slips to prevent drill collars from falling into the well if slip gripping inserts fail. Essential for any operation handling drill collars or other tubulars without an elevator shoulder.

2. Y-Series Slip-Type Elevators

Manual operation, designed for tubing, casing, and drill pipe. Balanced two-piece construction with automatic locking latch. Ideal for handling tubing without conventional elevator shoulders.

Model Best For
LYT / MYT / YT Small to medium tubing (1″ – 3-1/2″)
HYT Medium tubing with higher load requirement
YC / MYC / HYC Casing (3-1/2″ – 7-5/8″) up to 200 tons

3. Manual Slips (Casing & Tubing)

Standard manual slips – the everyday tools for gripping and holding tubulars at the rig floor during tripping operations.

4. Power Slips & Hydraulic Slips (Available Upon Request)

Automated or semi-automated slip systems for operators seeking reduced manual handling and faster tripping cycles.

Applications – Where Our Slip Equipment Goes to Work

Our slip equipment is used daily in:

  • Drilling operations – handling drill pipe, drill collars, and casing strings

  • Workover and well intervention – tubing handling during pulling units

  • Electric submersible pump (ESP) installations – hoisting ESP columns without standard elevator shoulders

  • Integrated joint casing and integral joint tubing – applications where conventional elevators won't latch properly

  • Cementing operations – handling single casing joints with auxiliary elevators

  • Slim hole and coiled tubing drilling – small-diameter tubulars

Why Choose SJ Petro for Your Slip Equipment?

Here's what sets us apart:

What You Need SJ Petro Delivers
API 8C compliance – no shortcuts Certified manufacturing. We don't cut corners.
Safety clamps that actually work Positive mechanical grip. Spring-retracted slips for fast handling.
Small-diameter tubing handling Y-series slip-type elevators designed specifically for integral joint tubing and ESP columns.
Interchangeable components Change slips, change size – not the whole elevator.
Reliability in remote locations Forged alloy steel construction. NDT tested.
Global support We ship spares fast. Technical support included.

And one more thing:

We're not a trading company. SJ Petro is a direct manufacturer with over 80 years of oilfield equipment heritage, backed by Sinopec Group. When you buy from us, you're buying from people who understand drilling floors – not middlemen who only understand paperwork.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What exactly is a safety clamp, and why do I need one?

A: A safety clamp (sometimes called a "dog collar") is installed above the slips when handling drill collars or other tubulars without an elevator shoulder. If the slip gripping inserts fail, the safety clamp acts as a backup – gripping the drill collar and preventing it from falling into the well. It's an essential safety device, not an optional accessory. SJ Petro's safety clamps meet API 8C requirements.

Q2: What's the difference between a slip-type elevator and a conventional elevator?

A: A conventional elevator latches directly onto pipe collars or shoulders. A slip-type elevator uses interchangeable slips (gripping elements) to hold the pipe by friction – making it ideal for pipe that has no elevator shoulder, such as integral joint tubing, electric submersible pump columns, or flush-joint casing. In a slip-type elevator, the load causes the slips to set automatically when the elevator is raised.

Q3: What API specifications do your slip equipment products meet?

A: Our slip equipment is designed and manufactured according to API Spec 8C (Specification for Drilling and Production Hoisting Equipment). This covers design requirements, materials, testing procedures, and documentation for hoisting equipment including elevators, links, and spiders. For certain power slip systems, we can also reference API 7K.

Q4: Can I use a slip-type elevator for standard drill pipe?

A: Yes – but you need the correct slip set for your pipe OD. The Y-series elevator bodies are designed to accept interchangeable slip and slip setting ring assemblies for different pipe sizes. This makes them a versatile option for rigs handling mixed tubular sizes.

Q5: What sizes do your slip-type elevators cover?

A: Our Y-series covers tubing from 1.05″ (26.7 mm) up to 3-1/2″ (88.9 mm) for tubing models, and casing from 3-1/2″ (88.9 mm) up to 7-5/8″ (193.7 mm) for casing models. Maximum rated capacity is 200 short tons (HYC model).

Q6: Do you supply slip equipment for large-diameter casing (beyond 7-5/8″)?

A: Our standard Y-series handles up to 7-5/8″ casing. For larger casing sizes, we offer manual casing slips and spider systems. Contact us with your specific casing program – we can quote accordingly.

Q7: How often should I inspect or replace slip segments?

A: Slip segments should be inspected before each job for wear, cracking, or damage. Replacement intervals depend on running footage and abrasive conditions (sand, scale, etc.). We recommend keeping spare slip sets on site – and we stock them.

Q8: Are your slip-type elevators third-party certified?

A: Yes. Our products are manufactured in API Q1 and ISO 9001 certified facilities. Third-party verification (e.g., DNV, ABS, BV) is available upon request at additional cost.

Q9: What's your typical lead time?

A: Standard slip equipment: 15–30 days. Custom sizes or special material requirements: 45–60 days.

Q10: Do you provide training?

A: Absolutely. We provide:

  • Product installation and safe operating procedures

  • Inspection and maintenance training

  • Remote video support during commissioning

  • On-site training available for larger orders

Q11: Can you customize slip equipment for non-standard pipe sizes?

A: Yes. Contact us with your pipe OD, wall thickness, material, and operating environment. Our engineering team will review and quote a custom solution.
