Product Types – Offshore Workover Equipment Configurations

We offer several offshore workover equipment configurations to match different platform types and intervention methods:

  1. Platform Workover Rig (OWE‑50/100) – Complete mast, lift cylinders, HPU, and control cabin on skids. For fixed platforms with a drilling or workover derrick already in place – we replace the existing hoist with our hydraulic system.

  2. Snubbing Unit – Offshore (OWE‑50S/100S) – Hydraulic snubbing jack with integrated lift cylinders. Mounts directly to the platform BOP stack. No mast – lighter and smaller. For live‑well intervention.

  3. Light Well Intervention Unit (OWE‑30) – Small, portable unit for wireline or slickline support. Used for pump changes, scale removal, and logging. Can be moved by platform crane between wells.

  4. Heave‑Compensated Lift Frame – For floating production units (FPU, semi‑submersible). The mast is replaced by a lift frame with active heave compensation. Keeps the string stationary relative to the wellhead.

  5. Modular Rental Unit – Pre‑packaged in ISO container frames. Shipped by sea to any platform, lifted on by platform crane, and rigged up in 1‑2 days. Rental periods from 3 months. Includes spare parts and remote support.

  6. BOP Handling & Workover Skid – Combines a small hydraulic lift (20‑30 ton) with a BOP trolley and test stump. For routine BOP maintenance and stacking.

  7. Hydraulic Casing Running Tool (offshore) – Specialized unit for running production casing from a platform. Integrates with the platform’s existing crane or derrick.

Applications – Where Our Offshore Workover Equipment Excels

Our offshore workover equipment has been deployed for:

  • Fixed platform well intervention – South China Sea, Gulf of Thailand, Middle East. Routine pump changes, tubing repair, packer retrieval.

  • Jackup rig workover – When a jackup is cantilevered over the platform, our compact units fit between the jackup legs and the wellhead.

  • Live‑well snubbing – High‑pressure gas wells that cannot be killed without formation damage. Our OWE‑100S operates against 10,000 PSI.

  • Subsea well intervention (through riser) – On floating drillships or semi‑submersibles, our heave‑compensated lift frame runs coiled tubing or wireline through the riser.

  • FPSO topside workover – Limited deck space on a converted tanker. Our smallest unit (OWE‑30) fits in a corner and can be moved by the FPSO’s crane.

  • Platform abandonment – Pulling tubing, cutting casing, and retrieving packers during P&A. Our 100‑ton unit provides the pull force needed.

  • Emergency well kill – After a platform blowout, rapid‑deployment snubbing units are airlifted or fast‑shipped. We maintain emergency‑response units.

Why Choose SJ Petro for Offshore Workover Equipment?

  • Sinopec engineering with offshore focus – We have supplied equipment to South China Sea platforms for over 20 years. Our engineers understand platform crane limits, deck load capacity, and marine environmental regulations.

  • API & ATEX certified in‑house – No waiting for third‑party certification. We hold both API Q1 and ATEX notifications. We can also supply ABS, DNV, or BV classification.

  • Compact, platform‑proven designs – Our OWE‑50 has been installed on platforms with only 50 m² of spare deck space. Many competitors’ units are too large.

  • Corrosion protection that works – Not just paint. We use 316L stainless wetted parts, galvanized bolts, and sacrificial anodes. Five‑year warranty against corrosion perforation (excluding wear).

  • Heave compensation expertise – We have active heave systems operating on semi‑submersibles in the South China Sea. Stroke up to 5 meters, accuracy ±1%.

  • Remote support & fast spares – We keep offshore‑specific spares (seal kits, valve cartridges, sensors) in Singapore and Dubai. Airfreight to most offshore hubs within 48 hours.

  • On‑site commissioning – Our technicians hold offshore survival certification (BOSIET, HUET, CA‑EBS). We commission the unit on your platform.

  • Competitive pricing – As an OEM manufacturer, we are 20‑30% below Western offshore workover equipment suppliers for equivalent API/ATEX certification.

  • Warranty – 12 months on all components. Extendable to 24 months for hydraulic cylinders. Corrosion warranty 5 years.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: Can your offshore workover equipment be lifted by a platform crane?
Yes – each skid is designed to be within the platform crane’s single‑lift capacity. We ask for your crane’s SWL and radius before designing the skid. Typical skid weights: 6‑12 tons. For very low crane capacity, we break the package into smaller pieces (down to 3 tons).

Q2: Do you offer ATEX certification for Zone 0 (continuous hazard)?
No – our equipment is rated for Zone 1 and Zone 2. Zone 0 would require intrinsic safety for all electrical components, which is impractical for a hydraulic power unit. However, the HPU can be placed in a Zone 2 area and the snubbing jack in Zone 1. We provide zoning advice.

Q3: How does heave compensation work on your lift frame?
An active system uses an accelerometer on the rig floor and a servo valve to extend/retract the lift cylinders, canceling vessel motion. Accuracy is within ±1% of stroke. Passive systems use a gas spring (nitrogen accumulator) – simpler but less accurate (±5%). We recommend active for deepwater or rough seas.

Q4: What is the minimum deck space required for your smallest unit (OWE‑30)?
Approximately 6 m × 4 m (24 m²) for the skids, plus 2 m clearance around the wellhead for the mast. The control console can be placed in an existing control room. We can work with you to fit into tight spaces.

Q5: Can the equipment be left on the platform permanently?
Yes – many of our units are permanently installed on platforms, with the mast folded and covered when not in use. We offer long‑term corrosion protection and will schedule annual offshore inspections. Permanently installed units have a design life of 20+ years.

Q6: Do you provide training for platform crews?
Yes – we send a trainer to the platform for one week of hands‑on instruction. The training covers rig‑up, operation, snubbing procedures, emergency shutdown, and basic maintenance. We also provide a digital simulator for refresher training.

Q7: What if my platform has no dedicated hydraulic power source?
Our HPU skid includes the electric or diesel power unit. For electric, we need a 480V/60Hz or 380V/50Hz, 3‑phase connection. For diesel, we need an exhaust vent to the outside. No platform hydraulic supply is required.

Q8: Can your snubbing unit work with my existing BOP stack?
Yes – we need the BOP stack top flange size, pressure rating, and bolt pattern. We will supply the adapter spool and connector to match. Many of our units are used with Cameron, NOV, and Shaffer BOPs.

Q9: What is typical delivery time for an offshore workover unit?
OWE‑30 (standard): 3‑4 months. OWE‑50 or 100 with ATEX: 5‑6 months. Heave‑compensated units: 7‑8 months. We can expedite emergency orders (e.g., after a well failure) to 2‑3 months.

Q10: How do I get a proposal for an offshore workover unit?
