Product Types – Jack-up Drilling & Workover Solutions
SJ's jack-up product line includes several configurations to match your operational needs:
Drilling Workover Combo Rig – Full drilling capability plus heavy workover functionality. Best for operators who want one rig for the entire field life — from initial drilling through ongoing well maintenance.
Dedicated Offshore Workover Rig – Lighter-duty rig focused on intervention, completion, and abandonment. Maximum static load from 300 kN to 2,250 kN, installed power from 235 to 1,300 HP, available in XJ150 through XJ1200 models. Ideal for mature fields where drilling is complete but intervention demand is high.
Drilling and Workover Package – A complete modular system including drawworks, mast, substructure, mud pumps, BOP handling, and high-pressure manifolds — designed for skid-mounted installation on any jack-up platform.
Offshore Workover Snubbing Unit – Hydraulic snubbing capability for live-well interventions without killing the well. SJ has conducted research on snubbing unit technology for cluster wells and old oil field workover operations.
Applications: Where This Rig Earns Its Keep
The SJ jack-up drilling workover rig is designed for operators who need serious well intervention capability without the footprint of a full-size drilling rig:
-
Platform drilling on jack-ups – New well drilling from cantilever or slot-type platforms in water depths suitable for self-elevating units
-
Heavy workover interventions – Pulling and running large-diameter completion strings, ESP replacements, acid stimulation
-
Well completion and recompletion – Running production tubing, packers, and downhole equipment
-
Plug and abandonment (P&A) – Full well decommissioning capability from a single platform visit
-
Snubbing operations – Live-well interventions without killing the well, particularly valuable in aging fields with pressure depletion concerns
-
Batch intervention campaigns – Multiple wells from the same platform position, minimizing jack-up moves
SOFE has produced more than 400 sets of large-scale offshore equipment, widely used in Bohai Sea, East Sea, South Sea, and exported to North America and Malaysia. SJ has offered over 40 sets of offshore drilling and workover equipment to offshore oil fields to date.

OEM & Customization: Built for Your Specific Jack-up
No two jack-up platforms are the same. Different leg spacing, cantilever geometry, deck reinforcement, preload capacity — all affect how a workover rig integrates.
What we customize for you:
-
Skid base geometry – Precisely matched to your platform's existing hard points or skid rails. No unnecessary welding on your deck.
-
Mast height & clearance – Reduced or extended to fit under cantilever beams or between leg chords
-
Power system integration – Direct from platform gensets, or we supply standalone power modules
-
BOP handling configuration – Customized for single or dual-ram BOPs, with remote or local control panels
-
Top drive mounting – Pre-engineered for NOV, Canrig, Tesco, or our own design
-
Control system – Si-driller standard; third-party system integration available
-
Classification society certification – We manage ABS, DNV, BV, or CCS certification — you don't have to chase surveyors
How it works: You send us your platform deck drawing, drilling program, and any site constraints. Our engineers produce a 3D integration model. You approve. We build and factory acceptance test (FAT) at our 50,000 m² yard with 24 rig-up positions and 750-ton load test facility. Then we deliver — fully assembled or knocked down for shipment, as you prefer.
High-Pressure Fluid Control Products — Fully Interchangeable
SJ’s Manifold Branch provides high-pressure manifolds fully interchangeable with world-leading brands, including drilling mud manifolds, choke & kill manifolds, BOP manifold systems, and cementing manifolds for offshore rigs. Pressure ratings from 21MPa to 140MPa, sizes from 2” to 5”. Whether you need replacements for existing systems or a complete manifold package for your new jack-up rig, we deliver components that fit — no re-engineering required.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: Is this rig designed for drilling, workover, or both?
A: Both. The SJ jack-up drilling workover rig's 4,500 kN hook load and 1,470 kW drawworks handle routine drilling comfortably — but the same equipment performs heavy workover, completion, snubbing, and P&A operations. You don’t need separate rigs for separate tasks.
Q2: Can you install this rig on an existing jack-up platform?
A: Yes — and we do this regularly. Provide your platform deck drawings, leg spacing, cantilever dimensions, and available power. We design a skid-mounted package that minimizes modifications to your existing deck.
Q3: What's the difference between this rig and a dedicated offshore workover rig?
A: This rig has higher hook load and larger drawworks — it’s built for drilling duty as well as workover. Our dedicated workover rigs (XJ150 through XJ1200) are lighter and better suited for mature fields where new drilling is complete but intervention demand is high.
Q4: What certifications do you provide?
A: Base certifications include API, ISO9001, and HSE. Upon request, we can obtain ABS, DNV, BV, or CCS certification for the complete drilling package — each skid, mast, and pressure component certified to the required classification society's rules.
Q5: Do you supply spare parts for jack-up workover rigs already in service?
A: Yes. We maintain a consigned spares inventory for critical items — drawworks brake pads, hydraulic seals, sensors. For major components, lead time is typically 4–8 weeks. We can also set up a local spares consignment at your onshore base for high-activity campaigns.
Q6: Do you provide offshore commissioning and crew training?
A: Absolutely. Our field service engineers can sail to your jack-up location for installation supervision, system commissioning, and hands-on crew training. We can also provide remote technical support via Si-driller telemetry interface.
Q7: What's the typical lead time for a jack-up drilling workover rig?
A: For a standard configuration, typically 8–10 months. Custom engineering (including platform-specific skid design and class society certification) may add 2–3 months. Contact us with your project timeline for a firm delivery commitment.
Q8: Can I visit your factory before ordering?
A: Yes — and we encourage it. Seeing the 50,000 m² yard, 24 rig-up positions, and the 750-ton test facility gives you confidence in our capability. We also offer virtual factory tours and online FAT witnessing.
