Product Types – Complete Downhole Operation Tools Lineup
We manufacture the full range of downhole operation tools for fishing, milling, cutting, and jarring:
-
External Fishing Tools – Releasing & circulating overshots (series 150), washover pipes, taper taps, and internal cutting tools.
-
Internal Fishing Tools – Releasing fishing spears (spiral and straight grapple), die collars, and pull‑over tools.
-
Jarring Tools – Hydraulic drilling jars (double‑acting), mechanical jars, bumper jars (jar intensifiers), and jar boosters.
-
Milling Tools – Flat bottom mills, taper mills, pilot mills, section mills, and junk mills (TCI or milled tooth).
-
Cutting Tools – Chemical cutters, mechanical tubing cutters, and abrasive cutters. Also back‑off tools for left‑hand threads.
-
Junk & Debris Tools – Reverse circulation junk baskets, magnet junk catchers, boot baskets, and junk sleeves.
-
Stabilizers & Subs – Integral blade stabilizers, non‑magnetic stabilizers, crossovers, circulating subs, and landing subs.
-
Drilling Jars for Fishing String – Slim hole jars for coil tubing or small diameter fishing strings.
Applications – Where Our Downhole Operation Tools Are Used
Our downhole operation tools are deployed in:
-
Fishing stuck drill pipe or collars – After differential sticking, mechanical sticking, or keyseating. Overshots, spears, and jars work together to free and retrieve the string.
-
Retrieving broken tubing or sucker rods – In producing wells. Fishing spears catch the broken rod, jars break the rust bond, and overshots pull the tubing.
-
Milling up junk in the hole – Bit cones, stabilizer blades, or hand tools left on bottom. Taper mills and junk baskets clean the hole.
-
Section milling casing windows – For sidetracking or kick‑offs. Section mills cut a window in existing casing – up to 60 meters can be milled in one run.
-
Backing off drill pipe – When you cannot rotate the stuck string, left‑hand torque is applied with a back‑off tool to separate at the desired thread connection.
-
Cutting tubing or casing – Chemical cutters provide a clean, burr‑free cut without deformation – essential for fishing operations.
-
Recovering packers or bridge plugs – Overshots with heavy‑duty grapples and mill control tools engage the top of the packer, then jars and pull force extract it.
-
Well abandonment – Cutting and pulling multiple casing strings. Our section mills and cutters are sized for each casing string.
Why Choose SJ Petro for Downhole Operation Tools?
-
API Spec 7‑1 & 8C certified – Full compliance. Third‑party inspection (BV, DNV, SGS) is welcome. Many tools carry the API monogram.
-
OEM manufacturer – We produce tools in‑house (CNC, heat treatment, thread grinding). No repackaged imports. You get consistent quality.
-
Full material traceability – Every tool has a serial number and material certificate (EN 10204 3.1). Hardness and impact test results on file.
-
Custom dimensions & connections – Need a non‑standard grapple size or a proprietary connection? Send us a drawing or sample. We can reverse‑engineer.
-
Quick turnaround – Standard tools (overshots, spears, jars) in stock for immediate delivery. Custom tools: 15‑30 days.
-
Global shipping & support – We have shipped to over 30 countries. Our engineers can recommend tool selection based on your fish description.
-
Competitive pricing – As a Sinopec subsidiary with large‑scale production, we are 20‑35% below Western OEMs for equivalent quality.

Warranty – 12 months on manufacturing defects. Wear parts (grapples, seals) are consumables and not warranted for wear.
-
Training & job planning – We can advise on fishing technique and tool selection. Ask about our "Fishing Tool Selection Guide” for your specific stuck situation.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: What is the difference between an overshot and a spear?
An overshot goes over the outside of a tubular fish (e.g., drill pipe or tubing) and grips it with internal grapples. A spear goes inside the fish and grips the internal wall with external grapples. Use an overshot for pipe, a spear for collars or solids.
Q2: How do I choose the right grapple size?
Grapples are sized for a specific range of fish diameters. For example, an overshot with a 2‑3/8" to 2‑7/8" grapple can catch fish from 2.375" to 2.875" O.D. Always measure the fish O.D. accurately before selecting the grapple. We stock grapples in 1/8" increments.
Q3: Do your hydraulic jars work in deviated wells?
Yes. Our hydraulic jars use oil viscosity control – not ball valves – so they are not orientation‑sensitive. They work in horizontal and deviated wells up to 90 degrees.
Q4: Can I rebuild your tools in my shop?
Yes. We sell replacement parts: grapples, packing rings, jar seals, and mill inserts. We also provide repair manuals. Or you can send the tool back to us for factory rebuild.
Q5: What is the temperature rating for your downhole operation tools?
Standard tools are rated to 150°C (302°F). For high‑temperature wells (up to 200°C / 392°F), we use special seals and heat‑treated alloys. Specify your temperature requirement.
Q6: Do you offer non‑magnetic jars and fishing tools?
Yes. We manufacture non‑magnetic drill collars (NMDCs) and can supply non‑magnetic jars, overshots, and spears from stainless steel or non‑magnetic alloy. Lead time is longer – contact us.
Q7: How do I know if a chemical cutter will work in my well?
Chemical cutters work best in clean, dry tubing or casing. They are not suitable for oily or wet strings. We provide a pre‑job checklist. Our mechanical cutters are more forgiving for dirty wells.
Q8: What is the typical lead time for custom downhole operation tools?
For non‑standard sizes or connections: 15‑30 days for simple tools (spears, overshots, subs); 30‑45 days for jars or mills requiring heat treatment and threading.
Q9: Do you provide tool rental instead of purchase?
We primarily sell, but for large fishing projects we can offer rental with a purchase option. Contact our fishing tool division for rental availability and rates.
