Innovation & Technical Strengths
We build coiled tubing systems for reliable, continuous operation in challenging downhole conditions. Here’s what sets SJ apart:
-
Heavy-duty injector head with dual gripper blocks – Our injector heads (up to 400,000 lbs pull) use independent chain tension control. No slipping, even with deep reach or heavy bottom hole assemblies. Quick-change gripper blocks reduce downtime.
-
Real-time depth & force monitoring – Precision encoder on the injector head tracks tubing depth within ±0.1 m. Surface weight and pull limit alarms protect the string from overpull or buckling.
-
Integrated well control package – Stripper rubbers, BOP stack, and quad-ram preventer are mounted directly below the injector head. Remote-controlled from the cabin – safe for H2S or high-pressure wells.
-
High-pressure fluid swivel – Our swivel design handles up to 15,000 psi circulating pressure while rotating the coil. Essential for milling and underbalanced drilling.
-
Self-contained power module – Diesel-hydraulic or electric-hydraulic drive systems. All components (reel drive, injector head, BOP controls, fluid pump) run from a single power unit – fewer connections, faster rig-up.
-
Compact offshore version – Skid-mounted units with explosion-proof electric motors and marine coating. Designed to fit tight platform deck spaces and pass through standard hatches.
-
Acid & chemical resistant components – Wetted parts made from stainless steel or coated with corrosion-resistant material for acidizing and stimulation fluids.
-
Data acquisition & job reporting – All parameters (depth, weight, pump pressure, rate, circulating volume) are recorded. Generate PDF reports after each run for client validation.

Applications – Where Our Coiled Tubing Units Excel
-
Well cleanout – Removing sand, scale, paraffin, or drilling debris from the bottom of the well without killing it. Our units circulate with nitrogen or foam to lift solids.
-
Milling – Milling out bridge plugs, packers, cement, or scale buildup. High pull and snub capacity allows aggressive milling parameters.
-
Acidizing & matrix stimulation – Spotting acid precisely across perforations or damaged zones. Minimal acid volume, maximum impact, no kill fluid.
-
Underbalanced drilling (UBD) – Drilling new sections or sidetracks with bottomhole pressure below reservoir pressure. Eliminates formation damage and increases ROP.
-
Velocity string installation – Running smaller tubing inside existing production tubing to resolve liquid loading issues in gas wells.
-
Hydraulic fracturing through coiled tubing – Limited-entry fracturing or pinpoint stimulation across multiple zones.
-
Offshore platform intervention – Compact units deploy from jack-ups or fixed platforms for scale squeeze, gas lift valve replacement, or well cleanup.
-
Geothermal well maintenance – Acidizing and scale removal in high-temperature geothermal wells (special elastomers available).
Why Choose SJ Petroleum Machinery for Coiled Tubing Units?
-
Sinopec subsidiary – trusted for decades – Our parent company operates thousands of wells. We understand coiled tubing from the service provider’s perspective, not just the equipment manufacturer’s.
-
Over 150 coiled tubing units delivered – SJ entered the coiled tubing market in 2005 and has since supplied units to national oil companies and international service firms across Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and South America.
-
API 5ST, 7K, 16C certified – Tubing and pressure control equipment meet API specifications. Full traceability from steel mill to finished unit.
-
Modular design for quick mobilization – Our CTUs can be disassembled into 3–4 skids for air freight or road transport. Rig-up time for a crew of three: under 4 hours from truck arrival to first run.
-
Customizable for extreme conditions – Cold-weather packages (-40°C), desert cooling, offshore corrosion protection, and H2S service. Just tell us your environment.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: What is the maximum depth your coiled tubing can reach?
A: Depends on tubing diameter and wellbore conditions. With 2” tubing, our CTU-120 can reach 15,000 ft in a straight vertical well. In deviated or horizontal wells, reach reduces due to friction. We can run a simulation for your well profile.
Q2: Can your coiled tubing unit perform underbalanced drilling?
A: Yes. Our CTU-120 and CTU-200 models are equipped with rotating BOPs and high-pressure swivels, allowing you to drill with foam or aerated fluid. The injector head provides precise weight-on-bit control.
Q3: How long does a coiled tubing string last?
A: Typical fatigue life is 80–120 trips, depending on operating pressure, corrosion, and bending cycles. Our reels allow you to cut off the most fatigued section (the first few wraps) and re-certify the remaining string. Replacement strings are available from SJ or any API-certified mill.
Q4: Do you offer nitrogen pumping as part of the unit?
A: We can integrate a nitrogen pump on the same power pack, or supply a separate nitrogen skid. For cleanout and underbalanced drilling, nitrogen or foam is essential for lifting solids.
Q5: What safety features do your CTUs have?
A: Each unit includes: deadman control on the injector head (automatic brake on signal loss), overpull and over-speed protection, real-time tubing fatigue monitoring, and remote BOP actuation from the control cabin. All high-pressure lines are shielded.
Q6: Can your coiled tubing unit be used for logging and perforating?
A: Yes. We can run fiber optic or electric line inside the coiled tubing (e-line CT). Our swivel design allows rotation for perforating guns. Let us know if you need a cable pass-through arrangement.
Q7: How do you prevent tubing buckling in horizontal wells?
A: Our control system includes a "lock-up” detection algorithm. It monitors weight transfer and automatically reduces speed if buckling is imminent. Experienced operators also use lubricants and friction reducers.
Q8: What is the typical lead time for a CTU?
A: Standard units (CTU-40 to CTU-120): 5–7 months. Larger or custom units (CTU-200+): 8–10 months. Rush orders possible for in-stock components – contact us.
Q9: Do you provide training for local crews?
A: Yes. After commissioning, we send a field engineer for 10–14 days. This covers safety, rig-up, normal operation, emergency procedures, and routine maintenance. We also provide a full set of manuals and video tutorials.
Q10: How do I get a quote for a coiled tubing unit?
A: Please provide: desired max depth, tubing OD, target pull capacity, well pressure, environment (onshore/offshore, temperature), and preferred power type (diesel or electric). We will reply with a datasheet and commercial offer within 5 working days.
