OEM & Customization – Engineered for Your Specific Platform and Well Plan
Large fixed platforms vary significantly in deck layout, beam spacing, available power, and structural capacity. The SJF315DB is a serious piece of iron—we need to get the integration right.
What we customize for every SJF315DB:
-
Footprint & skid beam layout – We design the skid base to land precisely on your platform's main deck beams, avoiding unsupported spans and weak areas
-
Mast height adjustment – For platforms with overhead crane beams, flare booms, or helideck clearance constraints, we can reduce mast height while maintaining API 4F compliance
-
Substructure clearance – Matched exactly to your BOP stack, diverter, wellhead Christmas tree, and any subsea isolation valve heights
-
Deck load engineering – We perform structural calculations based on your platform drawings (or as-built sketches) and design skid beams to distribute the rig's dead weight and live loads optimally
-
Power interface – Connection to platform generators at your specific voltage, phase, and frequency; or standalone power skid if platform power is insufficient
-
Top drive integration – Pre-engineered mounts, electrical interfaces, and cooling for your preferred top drive brand (NOV, Canrig, Tesco, or SJ)
-
Corrosion protection – C5-M standard; upgrade to C5-H with additional stainless steel components, anodic protection, and enhanced coating systems for North Sea or tropical ultra-humid environments
-
Classification society certification – We manage ABS, DNV, BV, or CCS certification from initial design review through final stamping
-
Control system integration – Si-driller standard; custom data export to your platform SCADA, onshore remote monitoring center, or third-party drilling optimization software
Our custom engineering process—no guesswork:
-
You provide: Platform deck general arrangement (PDF or CAD), well bay layout and dimensions, available platform power (kVA, voltage, phase, frequency), target well depths and casing sizes, any overhead or side clearance constraints.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: How does the SJF315DB compare to the SJF225DB?
A: The SJF315DB offers 40% more hook load (3,150 kN vs 2,250 kN) and 50% more drawworks power (1,100 kW vs 735 kW). It drills 1,000 meters deeper (5,000 m vs 4,000 m) and handles significantly larger casing strings. The mast is taller (45.5 m vs 41–43 m), the substructure has greater clearance, and the rotary table opening is larger (20.5″ to 27.5″ vs 17.5″ to 20.5″). The SJF315DB is for operators who need real heavy-duty capacity—not just a little more.
Q2: Our fixed platform was designed in the 1980s. Can it support the weight of the SJF315DB?
A: Possibly, but this requires a thorough engineering review. Unlike smaller rigs, the SJF315DB is heavy—and not every older platform was built to support a 5,000 m drilling rig. Send us your platform's structural drawings (or as-built sketches if originals are lost). Our engineers will calculate existing deck load capacity, beam spacing, and foundation strength. If the platform is marginal, we can recommend deck reinforcement requirements or, in some cases, a lightweight version of the SJF315DB with reduced dead weight. No obligation feasibility study.
Q3: What is the minimum platform deck size needed for an SJF315DB?
A: For a full-capability SJF315DB with top drive, full pipe racking, and mechanized handling, we typically need approximately 15m x 11m of clear deck space. For a more compact configuration (reduced racking capacity, no top drive), we have fit this rig into 13m x 10m. We need your well bay dimensions to give you an exact answer.
Q4: Does the SJF315DB come with a top drive as standard?
A: The base package is kelly drive. We strongly recommend adding a top drive for deep drilling—it saves significant connection time and improves hole cleaning. We can integrate NOV, Canrig, Tesco, or our own SJ top drive as an option. The mast comes with pre-drilled mounting points, and the control system includes top drive interlocks. Adding a third-party top drive adds approximately 3–4 months to delivery due to lead times (unless you supply your own top drive).
Q5: Can we use the SJF315DB for heavy workover only, without deep drilling?
A: Absolutely. The SJF315DB is overqualified for most workover work, but if you have deep recompletions, heavy fishing jobs, or milling operations that require high hook load, this rig handles them with ease. You don't pay extra for capacity you don't use—but it's nice to have when you need it.
Q6: What certifications come standard? Can you get ABS or DNV?
A: Standard: API 4F (mast & substructure), API 7K (drawworks), API 8C (hoisting), ISO9001, HSE. For ABS, DNV, BV, or CCS, we obtain certification as an option. We have done this for multiple export rigs. Allow an additional 3–4 months for class society review, design approval, and surveys.
Q7: Do you provide offshore commissioning and training?
A: Yes. Our field service engineers will mobilize to your platform for installation supervision, hook-up, system commissioning, and crew training. Typical on-site duration: 3–5 weeks for a rig of this size. We also offer remote support via the Si-driller telemetry system after handover.
Q8: What about spare parts availability for the SJF315DB?
A: We maintain a consigned spares inventory for high-wear items: drawworks brake pads, hydraulic seals, sensors, VFD control boards, etc. For active long-term campaigns (e.g., multi-well drilling programs), we can establish a local spares consignment at your onshore supply base. Major components (drawworks drum, mast sections, rotary table) have 6–10 week lead times.
Q9: We already have a BOP and choke manifold on our platform. Will the SJF315DB connect without replacing them?
A: Almost certainly. Our high-pressure manifolds are fully interchangeable with major global brands (Cameron, NOV, etc.). Send us the make, model, connection types, and pressure ratings of your existing equipment. We will supply adapters or modify our interfaces to match. We do not force replacement of serviceable third-party components.
Q10: Can we witness factory acceptance testing for the SJF315DB?
A: Yes—and we strongly recommend it. Our 750-ton load test facility allows full mast and substructure proof-loading to API 4F. You can bring your own third-party surveyor or use our accredited subsidiary SJPETRO for independent verification. Virtual FAT (live video with remote witness) is also available. We have had customers from Malaysia, the Middle East, and South America attend FAT at our facility.
Q11: What is the typical lead time for an SJF315DB?
A: Standard configuration with minor customization (footprint adjustment, standard C5-M coating, no class society certification)—10–11 months. Full custom (reduced mast height, class society certification like ABS/DNV, non-standard power configuration, heavy corrosion package)—12–14 months. Contact us with your target delivery date for a firm schedule.
Q12: Has the SJF315DB been exported outside China?
A: Yes. SJF series rigs (including 315-class rigs) have been supplied to Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The broader Sinopec Oilfield Equipment group has exported heavy drilling rigs to the United States, Russia, and North Africa. We can provide references for similar heavy fixed platform rigs upon request (subject to customer approval).
Q13: What is the expected service life of the SJF315DB on a fixed platform?
A: Designed for 20+ years of service with proper maintenance. Key structural components (mast, substructure, skid base) are rated for the full API fatigue life. We have SJF series rigs that have been in continuous operation in Bohai Bay for over 15 years. Replacement of wear components (drawworks brake, hydraulic seals, etc.) is routine; the major structure remains sound.
Q14: Can the SJF315DB be relocated to another platform after initial installation?
A: Yes—it is designed as a skid-mounted package, not welded to the deck. However, relocation is not trivial due to the rig's weight (several hundred tons). We recommend treating the SJF315DB as a semi-permanent installation. If you anticipate moving the rig between platforms, we can design a modular version with enhanced break-down features—contact us to discuss.
