Key Applications

Chemical Transfer & Dosing

Move acids (sulfuric, hydrochloric), caustics (sodium hydroxide), solvents, or additives from storage to process. Our stainless steel or Hastelloy fluid ends resist pitting and stress corrosion cracking. Use with a VFD to precisely meter chemicals into a reactor or mixing tank – accurate to ±2% of setpoint.

Wastewater & Sludge Pumping

Industrial wastewater treatment plants deal with everything from oily water to primary sludge with 8% solids. Our rubber-lined or hardened steel fluid ends handle rags, sand, and biological solids without plugging. The slow speed (30–80 SPM) minimizes shearing of flocculated solids – your clarifier will thank you.

Food & Beverage Sanitary Transfer

Need to move corn syrup, chocolate mass, fruit pulp, or brine? We offer FDA-compliant 316L stainless steel fluid ends with electropolished wetted surfaces. Quick-disconnect tri-clamp fittings and CIP-capable seals make sanitation easy. No dead legs, no bacterial traps.

Oil & Lubricant Transfer

Pumping heavy gear oil (ISO 460), crude oil, or used motor oil? Standard centrifugal pumps lose efficiency as viscosity rises. Our positive-displacement pump maintains flow regardless of viscosity – from 32-weight hydraulic oil to 600-weight gear oil. Heat tracing options keep heavy fluids flowing in cold climates.

Mining Chemical Prep & Transport

Mines use large volumes of flocculants, cyanide for leaching, or lime slurry. Our skid-mounted pumps transfer these aggressive chemicals from mixing tanks to process points. Explosion-proof electrics available for carbon-in-pulp or solvent extraction areas.

Tank Farm & Terminal Transfer

Moving product between storage tanks, loading trucks, or feeding pipelines. Our diesel-driven portable skids act as mobile transfer stations – position at any tank, connect hoses, and start pumping. No need for permanent piping or fixed pumps.

Emergency Spill Response

When a tank overflows or a line ruptures, you need a pump that can handle unknown fluids – possibly corrosive, possibly containing solids, possibly both. Our heavy-duty skid pumps are standard equipment for several industrial spill response teams. They survive the unpredictability that destroys lighter-duty pumps.

Why Choose SJ Petroleum Machinery?

A Subsidiary of Sinopec Oilfield Equipment Corp.

We bring half a century of high-pressure fluid handling experience to industrial applications. But we don’t just repurpose oilfield pumps. Our industrial models have been redesigned with wider fluid compatibility, lower noise, and simpler controls. You get oilfield-grade durability at an industrial price point.

Metallurgy Experts, Not Just Assemblers

Most pump companies buy castings from foundries and assemble them. We pour, heat-treat, and machine many of our own fluid end components. That means we control the metallurgy – and we have the lab reports to prove it. Need a specific alloy or a hardness number? We can hit it.

True Customization, Not Just "Options”

Standard options include different seal materials, port configurations, and base plates. But we also take custom orders: special alloy fluid ends, non-standard flanges, integrated pulsation dampeners, even remote telemetry for flow and pressure. Tell us what you need. If it’s physically possible, we’ll build it.

Global Spare Parts Availability

Wear parts (liners, valves, packing, gaskets) are stocked in our Jingzhou factory, Houston warehouse, and Dubai hub. Standard air freight: 3–5 days to most industrial regions. For critical applications, we recommend a 1,000-hour spare parts kit – we’ll help you select the right components based on your fluid.

Third-Party Inspections Welcome

Need an SGS or BV inspection before shipment? No problem. Want a witnessed hydrotest or a material certification for every pressure part? We provide that as standard. Our quality system is built on API Q1 – one of the most demanding quality standards in the pumping industry.

Honest Lead Times, No Surprises

Standard industrial pumps (carbon steel fluid end, electric motor, 200 HP) ship in 4–5 weeks from order. Exotic alloys or custom flanges add 2–3 weeks. We’ll tell you the real lead time upfront. Rush orders (2 weeks) available for an expediting fee – but we don’t compromise on testing.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What fluids can this pump NOT handle?

We avoid pumping extremely hazardous or unstable fluids without full engineering review: pure chlorine gas (needs a diaphragm pump), liquid oxygen (cryogenic), or fluids that polymerize inside the pump. Also, do not pump dry solids or materials that harden upon standing (certain epoxies, concrete). For anything else – ask us.

Q2: How do I select the right fluid end material?

Simple rule:

  • Water, light slurry → carbon steel

  • Saltwater, mild acids (pH 4–10) → 17-4PH stainless

  • Strong acids (HCl, H2SO4), chlorides → Hastelloy C276

  • Abrasive solids with low corrosion → rubber-lined carbon steel

  • Food/pharmaceutical → 316L stainless, electropolished
Send us your fluid’s SDS and operating temperature. We’ll give a written recommendation.

Q3: Can the pump handle viscous fluids like molasses or heavy crude?

Yes, with modifications. For viscosities above 2,000 cP, we:

  • Enlarge suction valves and ports

  • Reduce pump speed (run 20–50 SPM)

  • Install larger suction strainer (1/2″ holes)

  • Sometimes add a small gear-type feed pump for flooded suction
Maximum practical viscosity is about 10,000 cP. Beyond that, a progressive cavity pump is a better fit.

Q4: What’s the difference between your pump and a progressive cavity pump?

Positive displacement, both – but different strengths. PC pumps excel at very high viscosity (50,000+ cP) and low shear, but they have expensive stators that wear in abrasives. Our reciprocating pump handles abrasives better, runs at higher pressures, and has cheaper wear parts. For most industrial fluids under 10,000 cP and with moderate solids, our pump wins on total cost of ownership.

Q5: Can I run the pump dry if my tank runs empty?

No – dry running damages packing and can score plungers. We strongly recommend a low-level switch on your suction tank connected to a pump shutdown relay. We can supply this as an option (pressure switch or level probe). For brief dry runs (under 30 seconds), mechanical seals survive better than packing – but still, avoid it.

Q6: How often do I need to change packing?

Depends on fluid cleanliness and temperature:

  • Clean water/cool chemicals: 1,000–1,500 hours

  • Abrasive slurries: 300–500 hours

  • Hot fluids (>180°F): 200–400 hours
You’ll know it’s time when you see excessive leakage (more than 10 drops per minute) or leakage that won’t stop after adjusting the packing nut.

Q7: Do you offer a mobile cart instead of a skid?

Yes – for plant maintenance or lab use, we can mount the pump on a wheeled cart with pneumatic tires, handlebars, and a parking brake. Same pump, just more maneuverable. Specify "cart mount” when ordering.

Q8: What electrical certifications do you offer?

Standard: CE marked for 400V/50Hz. Optional:

  • UL/cUL for North America (480V/60Hz)

  • ATEX/IECEx Zone 1 and 2 (gas) or Zone 21/22 (dust)

  • CSA for Canada

  • GOST-K for Kazakhstan/Russia
Lead time for certified motors: +2 weeks.

Q9: Can I get a pump with remote start/stop and flow monitoring?

Absolutely. We offer a panel with PLC, HMI touchscreen, VFD control, and 4-20mA outputs for flow and pressure. Remote start via dry contact or Modbus TCP/IP. Logs up to 30 days of operating data. This is our "Industrial IQ” package – ask for a separate data sheet.

Q10: What’s your warranty and returns policy?

12 months from shipment or 6 months from commissioning (whichever comes first). Warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship – not wear parts (liners, valves, packing) or damage from improper fluid selection. Returned pumps must be cleaned and decontaminated. We do not accept returns on custom metallurgy or special coatings.
