Why Choose SJ Petro for Drill Floor Automation Equipment?

1. Removes Hands from Pipe – Our equipment is designed specifically to eliminate personnel from the red zone during connections and tripping. Not just "automation for efficiency” – for safety.

2. Integrated Control – One console controls elevator, slips, roughneck, mousehole, and stabbing arm. No jumping between different pendants.

3. Fast Retrofit – We can install our equipment on most existing rigs in 2‑3 weeks. No major structural modifications.

4. Field Proven – Over 150 rigs upgraded with SJ Petro drill floor automation in Sinopec fleet. Thousands of connections automated.

5. API Certified – Elevators, roughneck, and slips built to API standards. Full traceability.

6. Global Service – Spare parts for elevator cylinders, slip inserts, roughneck jaws stocked in Houston, Dubai, Singapore.

7. Training Included – 5 days on‑site training for driller and floor crew. Simulator available.

8. Sinopec Engineering Heritage – Developed with input from experienced drillers who know what works on the floor.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What is the difference between "drill floor automation” and "pipe handling system”?
Pipe handling systems move pipe from the rack to the V‑door (catwalk, racking). Drill floor automation handles pipe from the V‑door to the well center – elevator, slips, roughneck, mousehole. Both are needed for a fully automated rig.

Q2: Can your equipment be retrofitted to any rig?
Almost any land or platform rig with standard drill floor dimensions. We require a site survey to measure floor layout, top drive clearance, and existing hydraulic/electric supply.

Q3: How many people are needed to operate the automated drill floor?
With Basic package (roughneck only): floor crew reduced from 4‑5 to 2‑3. With Advanced package (elevator, slips, roughneck, mousehole): 1‑2 floor crew. With Complete package: 1 operator in cabin, zero personnel on floor during normal operations.

Q4: What is the connection time with full automation?
55‑65 seconds for a single connection (including slips, elevator, spin, torque). Manual: 60‑90 seconds depending on crew skill. Automation is not always faster but is perfectly consistent and safer.

Q5: How reliable are hydraulic elevators and slips in harsh conditions?
Very reliable when properly maintained. We use industrial‑grade cylinders, chrome rods, wiper seals. Arctic package with heated hydraulic oil for -40°C.

Q6: What happens if the control system fails?
Manual override for every device. Elevator has manual latch release; slips have manual release button; roughneck has backup manual valves. Rig can continue operation in manual mode.

Q7: Do you provide training for the equipment?
Yes – 5 days on‑site training for drillers and floor crew. Includes simulator time for connection sequences and emergency procedures.

Q8: What is the typical lead time for a drill floor automation package?
Basic package (roughneck only): 3‑4 months. Standard package (roughneck + elevator + slips): 4‑6 months. Complete package: 6‑8 months.

Q9: Can your equipment handle casing and tubing as well as drill pipe?
Yes – with interchangeable jaw kits for roughneck, elevator inserts, and slip inserts. Changeover time: 10‑15 minutes for the full set.

Q10: What certifications do your products carry?
API 7K for roughneck and mousehole tools; API 8C for elevators; API 7F optional for slips. CE available. NACE MR0175 for sour service.

Q11: Do you offer a trial or rental of the equipment?
We have limited rental sets for short‑term projects. Contact rental desk for availability.

Q12: How do I get a quote?
Provide: rig type (land/offshore), desired equipment list (elevator, slips, roughneck, mousehole, stabbing arm), and any environmental requirements. We will respond with a proposal within 7 business days.
