Common interfaces Lubricators

Common interfaces Lubricators

SJ Petroleum Machinery (Sinopec Group subsidiary) has manufactured high pressure fluid control components since 1941. We supply common interfaces lubricators – grease injection tools with standard, universal connections that work on plug valves, gate valves, and manifolds from any manufacturer worldwide.

Interchangeable Coupler System – One Lubricator, Many Valves:

All SJ common interfaces lubricators feature a quick-change coupler at the outlet. Unscrew one coupler, screw on another – no tools required for most models.

Coupler change time: Less than 30 seconds.

Example: A rig has valves with 1/8″ NPT, 1/4″ NPT, and BSP 1/4″ ports. One SJ lubricator with three couplers covers all valves. No need to buy three separate lubricators.

Pressure Rating Independent of Interface – No Derating:

Some manufacturers derate their lubricators when you use adapters or non-standard couplers. SJ common interfaces lubricators maintain full pressure rating (70. 105. or 140 MPa) with any of our approved couplers. Each coupler is pressure tested to the same 1.5x factor.

Workover rig (older equipment) Legacy NPTF and UNF threads SJ‑LUB‑CI‑70 with custom adapter kit
Wellhead maintenance crew Various wellhead brands – need one tool for all SJ‑LUB‑CI‑105 with quick‑connect coupler (fast changes)
Valve repair shop Testing and lubricating valves from many customers SJ‑LUB‑CI‑105 with full adapter set

Field Example – International Drilling Contractor

A drilling contractor operates 15 rigs across five countries. Each rig has valves from different manufacturers – local content requirements mean mixing American, European, and Chinese brands. Previously, each rig needed three different lubricators and a box of adapters. Lost adapters were a constant problem.

SJ supplied common interfaces lubricators with coupler kits to every rig. One lubricator per rig. Coupler kit includes 1/8″ NPT, 1/4″ NPT, BSP 1/8″, BSP 1/4″, and M10x1. Adapters for older UNF threads on request.

Result: Adapter loss dropped 90%. Technician training time reduced. Valve lubrication compliance improved.

Type 3: SJ‑LUB‑CI‑Metric Kit (Asian Focus)

Includes M10x1 and M12x1.5 metric couplers. For Chinese, Russian, and some Japanese valves.

Type 4: SJ‑LUB‑CI‑Universal Kit (Full Set)

Includes all of the above: 1/8″ NPT, 1/4″ NPT, 1/8″ BSP, 1/4″ BSP, M10x1, M12x1.5, plus Fig 1502 (105 MPa only) and industrial quick-connect. Foam-fitted carrying case.

Recommended for: International operators, fracturing spreads, offshore platforms with mixed valve brands.

Type 5: SJ‑LUB‑CI‑Hammer Union (High Pressure Manifolds)

Fixed Fig 1502 or 2002 coupler – no quick-change. For dedicated high pressure manifold lubrication where valves are connected via hammer unions. Pressure rated to 105 MPa (Fig 1502) or 140 MPa (Fig 2002).

OEM Customized Solutions – Adapters for Any Valve, Any Thread

Sometimes standard threads aren’t standard. SJ can create custom couplers or adapters for virtually any valve lubrication port.

What we customize:

Your Requirement Our Solution
Non‑standard thread (e.g., 1/2″-20 UNF) Custom-machined coupler – same quick-change interface as standard couplers
Left‑hand thread Left‑hand coupler (marked with LH) – prevents cross‑threading
Unusual port depth (recessed or extended) Extended nose coupler (+10mm, +20mm, +50mm) or short nose for shallow ports
Proprietary brand‑specific fitting We reverse‑engineer the fitting and produce a compatible coupler (under license or for your own equipment)
High temperature port (valve body at 150°C+) Coupler with high‑temperature seals (Viton or Kalrez) and heat‑shielded grip
Sour service (H₂S) Coupler and adapter in stainless steel or with NACE‑compatible plating
Quick‑connect to match your existing system We manufacture couplers to ISO 7241‑1 Series A, B, or custom profile

Custom coupler process:

Step 1 – Sample or drawing: You provide the valve’s injection port fitting (or a detailed drawing with thread spec).

Step 2 – Design: SJ engineering creates a coupler drawing. Typically 1 week.

Step 3 – Prototype (optional): Sample coupler for your testing – 2–3 weeks.

Step 4 – Production: 4–6 weeks for small batches (10–50 units).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What does "common interfaces” mean for a lubricator?

A: It means the lubricator uses standard, widely available thread types and connection methods – NPT, BSP, metric, hammer unions, quick-connects – rather than proprietary fittings that only work with one brand of valve. You can use an SJ lubricator on valves from Cameron, GE, NOV, FMC, SJ, or any other manufacturer.

Q2: Will an SJ lubricator with NPT coupler work on a BSP port?

A: No – NPT and BSP are not interchangeable despite looking similar. NPT is tapered, BSP is parallel (or tapered but different thread angle). Forcing an NPT fitting into a BSP port will damage threads and leak. Use the correct coupler. SJ supplies both.

Q3: How do I know which coupler I need for my valves?

A: Check your valve’s lubrication port. Most have the thread size and type stamped nearby (e.g., "1/4 NPT” or "G 1/4”). If not, use a thread gauge or ask SJ – we can identify from a photo.

Q4: Can I buy just the couplers without the lubricator?

A: Yes – SJ sells individual couplers and adapter kits separately. If you already have a lubricator from another brand with a 1/4″ NPT outlet, our couplers will fit.

Q5: What is the maximum pressure rating through the Fig 1502 hammer union coupler?

A: 105 MPa (15,000 psi). For 140 MPa applications, use Fig 2002 coupler. The hammer union coupler is heavier than standard threaded couplers – expect longer change time.

Q6: Are the quick‑connect couplers compatible with [brand name] grease fittings?

A: Our standard quick-connect conforms to ISO 7241-1 Series A (common industrial standard). If your system uses Series B or a proprietary profile, we can supply the matching coupler. Provide a sample.

Q7: What is the pressure drop through a coupler vs. direct thread?

A: Negligible for lubricator applications. The orifice diameter in the coupler (approx 2–3 mm) is larger than the injection port orifice (typically 1–1.5 mm). The coupler is not the restriction.

Q8: How do I maintain the couplers?

A: Clean after each use (wipe grease off threads). Inspect sealing surface for nicks. Replace O-rings if leaking. SJ sells replacement seal kits for each coupler type. Do not use thread tape – it can shred and block the check valve.

Q9: What warranty do you offer?

A: Lubricator body: 12 months. Couplers and adapters: 6 months. O-rings and seals: 90 days (wear items).

Q10: How do I get a quote for a common interfaces lubricator with a custom coupler set?

A: Email lubricator@sjpetro.com with:

  • Desired pressure rating (70, 105, or 140 MPa)

  • Valve types and brands you need to lubricate (or specific thread types)

  • Any special environmental requirements (sour service, high temperature, etc.)

  • Quantity needed

We'll recommend a coupler kit and provide pricing within 3 working days.
